[edit]Talk: Dan Gottfried. I have checked over 20 titles of different artists and have NOT found any ground to delete the Dan Gottfried title. On the contrary, it contains much less "self promotion" them most of the artists pages I have checked on Wikipedia. In a way, you may say that each living and active artist who is listed in Wikipedia is "self promoted". Dan gottfried is a central figure in the Israeli music scene, active for over 48 years and holds a prize given to him by the State of Israel in recognition of his acheivments. I can't understand the reason behind deleting his unobtrusive content and info.
- Dan Gottfried is posting an article about himself, hence, it's self-promotion. Editors aren't supposed to create articles promoting themselves, their company, their organization. (See WP:SPAMMER.) Presumably the person who creates an article thinks the topic is noteworthy, but one's own opinion of oneself is hardly a reliable indicator of notability. —Largo Plazo (talk) 15:12, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Regardless of who wrote the article, if Mr Gottfried is notable, he's notable. The WP:COI guideline strongly discourages people from writing about themselves, but does not prohibit it. I'm working on cleaning the article now. Any help finding sources that are independent and reliable to verify the information would be most appreciated. Keeper ǀ 76 15:29, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- Irrelevant. I was referring to people declaring themselves to be notable. In any event, I didn't flag the article for deletion based on lack of claim of notability. I based it on self-promotion. And it's hard to argue that with all the Wikipedia dictums about not advertising, not self-promoting, not writing original research, writing objectively, using secondary sources in preference to primary or tertiary sources, and writing referenced information, that Wikipedia only "discourages" people from writing articles about themselves. It's also hard to imagine that someone who thinks to himself, "Gee, I think I'll write about my accomplishments on Wikipedia", doesn't have self-promotion in mind.
Having said all that, I'm satisfied to drop my objection given that the article is being "taken away", as it were, and being rewritten properly (and thanks for doing that). —Largo Plazo (talk) 15:50, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
