To-do list for Daler Mehndi:

Music
[edit]There doesn't seem to be much discussion about his music and popularity. Have his albums charted? Gone gold? Platinum? Anything? A popular musician from a country with a billion people who tours the United States must have some sales. 71.156.45.13 (talk) 07:47, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
2 singles by Daler Mehndi have charted on the Billboard Charts, making him among the few Indian Artists to have charted on Billboard charts. Mehndi's Tunak Tun charted at no. 22 on Billboard World Digital songs charts. The song has received significant International attention and still remains popular outside Asia. The second one is Aila re Aila , which charted at No.16 on the same charts. Daler Mehndi is one of the best selling Independent artists in India. IndieOKB (talk) 10:28, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
"Officially" Classified?
[edit]The article says He is classified officially as a bhangra singer. By who is he officially classified? Does the Indian government or recording industry have an official body that classifies performers? This statement is currently unclear to me. 216.186.102.81Ventifact

- The content of the Eccentricities section is total conjecture; there is no hard information to back it up and it is all clearly based on the author's perception. Escheffel 06:21, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
The information about daler mehndi is almost correct. He is still the biggest pop star on India. His pictures can be found on TunakTunak- thats his official picture gallery. Also, you can find discssions on him at RAGDAA.com
My Recent Edit
[edit]I've reversed my recent edit because apparently I've been having browser issues that have been manipulating the text in Daler Mehndi's website. I apologize for the erroneous edit. Rockhound 21:41, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
accuracy
[edit]googleing ਦਲੇਰ ਮਹਿੰਦੀ gives only 88 results, many of them wikipedia articles and mirrors... I'm thinking it's doubtfull that' that's how his name is written... can anyone veify it? -Aknorals 01:12, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Verification would be good, but when looking at your results, keep in mind the fact that Google may not crawl & cache all that many Hindi pages Tenmiles 05:37, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

- Punjabi spelling is correct. Indian language pages encoded in Unicode are limited at the moment, as is the general exposure of Indian language online. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 13:00, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not really an active Wikipedia-er(?) so I didn't want to edit anything.. but I'm fairly sure Raahat Ali Khan Saheb isn't his uncle. He didn't mention it in his interview, referring to Rahat Ali Khan Saheb as his ustad, or maestro. If you note in the interview at (http://www.rediff.com/chat/dalechat.htm), he nowhere refers to Rahat Ali Khan Saheb as his uncle. Also, on the official website (http://www.dalermehndi.com/) the biography states that he ran away from home in search of his future ustad. From the google search results, it looks like some website happened to publish this uncle thing, and numerous other website followed suit; many of the results that include his biography also include the exact same sentence "At age fourteen he spent three years refining his voice and learning the tabla, harmonium and tanpura from his uncle Raahat Ali Khan Saheb". At any rate, I'd change it, but I'll leave it up to you true Wiki-people to confirm. Mfa227 06:06, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
GA Result
[edit]There are 7 things that must pass before an article reaches GA status. I have reviewed it and the result is as follows:
- Well-written: Failed
- Factually accurate: Pass
- Broad: Pass
- Neutrally written: Pass
- Stable: Pass
- Well-referenced: Pass
- Images: Pass
Needs work, possibly move the images to clean it up, after that, you may renominate it —Minun Spiderman 19:14, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
2nd GA Review
[edit]1. It is well written. - Needs Improvement
Going into more specifics of this criteria
- (a) it has compelling prose, and is readily comprehensible to non-specialist readers
Too many short sentences that halt and stilt the flow of the prose. Like the 2nd paragraph of the section Early life and discovery, I would smooth out the prose and rewrite with some connection between the sentences that flows from point A to point B. Also, I would remove the word "currently" from the sentence "and currently has three children". The section is dealing with the past and the word currently catapults you into the present day. You can allude to the future (like maybe "which subsequently produced 3 children") but don't bring the entire narrative to the present day only to move it back to the past in the following section. In areas like Philanthropy and other activities there are a lot of "He also" in the section that should be rewritten to flow better without repeating that phrase.
- (b) it follows a logical structure, introducing the topic and then grouping together its coverage of related aspects
We tend to hop and skip from different time points. Like in the section 1995-2006: Popularity and controversy, the title lays out the period that is to be discussed and then goes on to describe events in the mid 90's up to present day 2006 and jumps way back to 1992. The car accident narrative stands out because it causes the reader to halt the natural progression they were making in observing the development of Daler's career. This info would be better served in the Early life and discovery section.
- (c) it follows the Wikipedia Manual of Style including the list guideline
No glaring violation of WP:MOS
- (d) necessary technical terms or jargon are briefly explained in the article itself, or an active link is provided.
A very worthwhile service that this article provides is that it helps cover an area of the world and culture that is dreadfully underrepresented here on Wikipedia due to systematic bias and for that I commend the editors for their work. However, that also adds more of a need to clarify some things that those apart from the culture of the article may not understand. Some questions that popped into my mind while reading the article was. "What are the "Kissing parties" that is mentioned in 1995-2006: Popularity and controversy?" "What is the value of a rupee compared to a dollar or a Euro?" (Obviously I could answer this by searching elsewhere on Wiki but a link within the article would aid in that) "Is there an English translation for some of the song & album titles, like Tunak Tunak Tun?"
2. It is factually accurate and verifiable. - Needs Improvement
- A couple items need to be source tagged in the intro paragraph
- A couple items are doubled source. While this is not a make or break issue with GA criteria, I would recommend evaluating the need to double source some of these non-controversial statesments like from the section Early life and discovery and the line "At age fourteen he spent three years refining his voice and learning the tabla, harmonium and tanpura from his uncle Raahat Ali Khan Saheb" You have two fairly reliable sources attached to this statement. I would leave just the one that most convincing cites this statement and eliminate the other. When you oversourced "uncontroversial statements", it gives the impression that you're needlessly inflating your reference count for the appearence of WP:V.
3. It is broad in its coverage. -Needs Improvement
- The areas that really stand out are Artistry and Philanthropy and other activities. They definitely need to be expanded. As a reader, I found myself interested in what kind of lasting influence Daler has or might have in the music world and in particular his area of music. Has he influenced other artist? Has there been covered or knocks off of his work? In the last section, the "other activities" and reference to his car seem misplaced. What signifigance (to his career or notability) does having a prado and wanting a hummer have? I would like to see the "other activities" expanded but it needs to be focused on what makes up the person of Daler Mehndi and his notability.
- I would also consider expanding the "External Links" section (Are there any sites where one can download and listen to samples of Daler's work or maybe watch the video that became an internet meme?) and maybe adding a "See Also" section with other relevant topics in Wikipedia. Look for Articles to link to like Music of India that would be a nice springboard to learn more once reading about Daler Mehndi has wetted your appetite.
4. It follows the neutral point of view policy. -Yes
- The editors did a particularly good job in balancing the positive and negative attributes of the subject.
5. It is stable - Yes
- No major edit wars in the article's recent history. Seems to be a slight target for vandalism but editors are quick to restore article's integrity.
6. It contains images - Yes
- I understand that this subject is a difficult one to find pictures for and I passed in this character on the account that a concerted effort was made to try and find some illustration.
- However two of the pictures (The intro one and the music video screen shot) are not of the most stellar quality. They are very pixelated and in the music video you really can't even tell who Daler is. If you wish to pursue this further to FA status then I would recommend a search for more suitable images.
I wholly encourage you to resubmit for GA consideration after the concerns have been address. Again, I commend the editors for aiding in covering such a worthwhile topic and area of knowledge for the English Wikipedia. The efforts you do enhance the overall quality and use of this subject immensely. If there is anything else that I can do to assist, please let me know. Agne 17:15, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Sex Scandal
[edit]- Is there any evidence to back this up, or is it vandalism? It appears badly written for me, so I'm thinking it is the second one. I'll be removing it from the main page, if anyone can back this up and rewrite the text, please feel free to do so. Here is the original text:
Recently, Daler Mehndi was accused of raping little boys. He used to ask little kids if they wanted it up the butt. They would be like no, he would forcingly shove it up their ass. During these sessions he would play his favorite track Tunak Tunak. Then video evidence was found by the indian government of daler mehndi and mika (younger brother of daler) having a dick rub and an ass massage, this was all followed by each of them blowing each other. They are now known as indias biggest fudus.

- It's vandalism of the sort that bored people seem to entertain themselves with. You see that kind of thing all the time at Wikipedia, and it gets removed as quickly as it's written. Don't give it another thought. — Saxifrage ✎ 23:41, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for clearing this up, and good thing I removed it then. As you can see, I'm kind of new here. - Mothmanbr 01:09, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
- Newness is no crime! Thanks for taking an interest in keeping up the quality of Wikipedia pages. And, do feel free to lean on me as a resource and ask questions at my Talk page. I like to help new editors when I can. — Saxifrage ✎ 01:13, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
Warcraft Dance
[edit]- The upcoming expansion to the World of Warcraft MMORPG is introducing a new race called the Draenai, and theur dance is based off of his choreography from "Tunak Tunak Tun", I think it should be included considering the notoriety of the Warcraft franchise. --70.29.121.132 14:31, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
It shouldn't. Please read the section on connective trivia and how to determine importance. I don't think that Daler Mehndi has a lot to do with your video game.. WP:HTRIVIA — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.181.48.116 (talk) 02:25, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Bolotararaalbum.jpeg
[edit]Image:Bolotararaalbum.jpeg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Is Daler Mehndi same as Daler Paji?
[edit]I found some onlone references to Daler Paaji or Paji. Are Daler Mehndi and Daler Paaji the same? My main interest emanates from Fame X where he was a judge. One of the judges is clearly MTV India VJ Nikhil Chinappa, the second is Daler Mehndi (also daler Paaji???). And who is teh third judge? See [1] werldwayd (talk) 08:00, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
