piece of jewelry

I am from an area with a lot of people from Cape Verde and many of them wear a peice of jewelry that is called a "conthioge". I am not sure how to actually spell the word, but I know it is typically a small spherical pendant that is black with small white dots on it.It is worn for good luck, and you may not buy one for yourself for it to be lucky. It has to be a gift. I came here looking for information on this interesting peice of culture, but have yet to find any, probably owed to the fact that I cannot spell the name correctly. anybody out there know what I am talking about?131.109.225.1 (talk)

I believe that expression may be a contraction from the Portuguese "contra-olhos" or something (I'm making this up, purely based in the existing expression "mau-olhado", which means "Evil eye").

Still, I would say this kind of jewelry is the subject of the song "Nha Sibichi", by Mayra Andrade, in her album "Navega". I'm not sure though, since I don't have access to the CD cover, which, if I recall correctly, explains this, even giving the portuguese name for the stone: azeviche, which would make the english equivalent to be Jet (lignite). Lead needs work
