A few historical facts that may be of use to the article -

(1) There were two tracks in Coventry in 1928 at Brandon Stadium and at Lythalls Lane Stadium in Foleshill.

(2) The first Speedway meeting held at Coventry's Brandon Stadium was on the 29th September 1928.

(3) The first Promoter at Brandon was Stanley Glanfield (Motordromes Promotions). He was a prominent and well known figure on the motorcycling scene - his Douglas motorcycle used in his pioneering ride across Australia was on display in the Science Museum at one point.

(4) Coventry's first pre-war Captain the legendary Jack Parker was a BSA test rider who had been attracted to the new sport of dirt track racing riding at High Beech in 1928.

(5) Under the influence of the stadium manager Captain Peacock one of the earliest Test Matches between England and Australia was held at Brandon in 1929.

(6) Jack Parker was instrumental in the reopening of Brandon Stadium after the second world war and in bringing the former manager of Haringey Speedway Charles Ochiltree to Coventry. Ochiltree was to be the dominant guiding light at Brandon for many decades.

(7) The reopening of Brandon saw the Coventry team become the Coventry Bees with club colours of yellow(gold) and black with a fighting Bee badge. 2007/8 saw the 60th Diamond Anniversary season of Coventry riding as the Bees.

(8) Pre war Coventry teams had worn red and green quatered race jackets with the sole exception of 1933 when they wore red and yellow.

(9) Having finished third in the inaugural Southern League of 1929 Coventry went on to be Champions in their Silver Jubilee season 1953, Golden Jubilee season 1978 and Diamond Jubilee season 1988.

(10) In addition to being Golden Jubilee League Champions in 1978 the Coventry Captain Ole Olsen also won the Golden Jubilee World Championship at Wembley in that same season.

(11) Coventry riders who have been World Speedway Champion are Ole Olsen 1978 and Greg Hancock 1997. Also Simon Wigg was World Long Track Champion in 1993.

(12) Coventry riders who have been British Champion include Kelvin Tatum in 1987 and 1990,

Andy Smith 1993, 1994, 1995, Scott Nicholls 2005, 2006 and Chris Harris 2007.

Notable riders

I've removed the notable riders section because there is no clear criteria for inclusion and it is open to POV edits. How many years should a rider be with the club before he is classed a "long servant"? Are the world champions riders who have won the title whilst riding for the Bees, reigning world champions who signed for the Bees, or riders who won the championship before or after they rode for Coventry? An external link was provided to a "hall of fame" but this just appears to be a list of every Coventry rider from 1929–2004. Barret (talk) 20:30, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
