Article name

[edit]

The current article name may be confusing, as it means pretty much "corrective labor colony corrective colony number 2", and it does not specify a location. IK-2 simply means "corrective colony 2", which can be anywhere in Russia. There are many other "IK-2" in different regions of Russia, which is why the official name includes "IK-2 of Vladimir Oblast" (as it is corrective colony number 2 in Vladimir Oblast). I already saw an editor get confused by this, who included an article from RFE/RL because it mentioned "IK-2", believing that this was referring to the colony in Pokrov, when in fact it was referring to the one in Ryazan Oblast. Cited articles mention the location of Pokrov or just Vladimir Oblast. So I think it is important to mention the location in the article name, something like "IK-2, Vladimir Oblast" or "Pokrov colony"/"Pokrov correctional colony" (as it is the one in Pokrov and a name also used). That way, it does not cause any confusion. Mellk (talk) 11:30, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@The Anome: So you know. Mellk (talk) 11:34, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I still think it would be better if it was shortened to just "IK-2, Vladimir Oblast", as it still means pretty much "corrective labor colony corrective colony 2, Vladimir Oblast". I also don't think it is necessary to specify the type of prison in the article name. "IK" only refers to corrective colony. The sources also simply refer to it as IK-2. Thanks for your help! Perhaps Corrective colony No. 2, Vladimir Oblast might be another alternative? -- The Anome (talk) 14:34, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, that also works. Mellk (talk) 16:08, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Brittney Griner

[edit]

I see people are being confused with the name again. Brittney Griner was sent to IK-2 in MORDOVIA (a female colony), not IK-2 in VLADIMIR OBLAST (this one). The number for the colony (IK-1, IK-2, ... etc) is region-specific. Please double check the sources on this, for example: "Her legal team, confirming an earlier Reuters story, said Griner had been taken to Female Penal Colony IK-2 in the town of Yavas in the Mordovia region."[1] Mellk (talk) 22:26, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've created Corrective colony No. 2, Mordovia. Valereee (talk) 12:46, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
