Bad Grammar

[edit]

I think that my version is an improvement in grammar and in the use of Hiberno-English. Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:54, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Still there is no need for personal attacks, as I am not German. At least do your homework properly. The Banner talk 17:58, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike Germanophile or Francophile, no equivalent word exists to cover Dutch people, hence my use of the broad linguistic family. I wonder why nobody has found the need to invent the word Dutchophile? No attack was involved, just some mischievous humour. @The Banner: So am I to take it that you have no substantial objections to my edits? Am I to take it that there is no more at stake here than wounded pride? Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:28, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You were referring to the fact that I am non-Irish. I DO take that as a personal attack. The Banner talk 10:53, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot be held responsible for your ill humour. to the substantial point: am I to take it that you have no substantial objections to my edits? Am I to take it that there is no more at stake here than wounded pride? Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:57, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Are you really unable to continue a discussion with personal attacks? The Banner talk 12:06, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Am I to take it that you have no substantial objections to my edits? Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:44, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your edits were no improvement. The Banner talk 14:10, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Could you give a specific example please? That would be more helpful to this discussion. Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:30, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not even a tiny hint? OK then. How do you feel about parish? Is this wikilink an improvement? Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:56, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If that makes you happy and stops your disruptive editing... The Banner talk 18:39, 21 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Naming convention

[edit]

The ecclesiastical names in County Clare lack a standard. One may find (parish), (Catholic parish), (Roman Catholic parish). Can we agree on a standard please? Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:31, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In fact the standard is "(parish)", unless more distinction is needed. The Banner talk 12:04, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I should expect that after so many years, you should understand the use of disambiguation to distinguish between articles with the same name. But I get the idea that you really do not understand that. The Banner talk 16:29, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for new name

[edit]

I would be grateful to see a citation for the ecclesiastical parish in the Catholic Church that shows that the present name of the parish is just "Corofin" with no other names or parentheses. Laurel Lodged (talk) 10:51, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See the book mentioned. You can borrow that through your library. But you can also try this link.
And I would be grateful when you stop disrupting articles and start doing your own research. WP:BURDEN and so on. The Banner talk 11:17, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And what reasons do you have to question the present article name? The Banner talk 11:33, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
tHE RESON IS THAT THE DIOCESAN WEBSITE DOES NOT USE THE NAME "cOROFIN" ON ITS OWN. iN THE ABSENCE OF A WEBSITE FROM THE PARISH ITSELF, THAT WOULD HAVE TO BE VIEWED AS AUTHORITATIVE. Laurel Lodged (talk) 11:51, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No need to scream. And try the sources mentioned above. And even so, you mangled the name mentioned on the website of the diocese into something that was not mentioned there (Corofin, Kilnaboy and Rath). The Banner talk 12:10, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
oops. It looks to me like "Corofin" is an unofficial name. I think that we should use what the diocese calls it. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:30, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And I didn't mangle the website name: parentheses have very specific meanings in Wiki, so it was not possible to replicate it exactly. I gave the intended meaning. Laurel Lodged (talk) 12:34, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Check the sources mentioned above. And yes, what you created was not the official name but your own creativity and misinterpretation. Sorry. Or try this source. The Banner talk 12:38, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The diocesan website is the starting point. Anything else is just informal usage. On the website, the name is "Parish Of Corofin (Kilnaboy & Rath)". Given wiki's policies on the use of parentheses, how would you render the name in wiki? Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:44, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Corofin", as I am not making something up. Did you check the other sources or do you prefer to ignore them? Books are valid sources, you know... The Banner talk 17:47, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Since you fail to incorporate the (Kilnaboy & Rath) ellements then you are, as you put it, making something up by omission. Laurel Lodged (talk) 17:58, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Did you read the other sources? The Banner talk 23:16, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I have added this to your present case at WP:AN/I. The Banner talk 23:35, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
