Why redirect to this article in lead sentence?
[edit]Why are you directing readers to this article in the first sentence? There's no point in wikilinking to this article in the first sentence, other than to annoy readers. Also, why link to tumbleweed, an article that isn't about that species? Huh? --KP Botany (talk) 23:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is work in progress. See Talk:Tickseed#Requested move and Talk:Tumbleweed (disambiguation)#Requested move. --Una Smith (talk) 00:02, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- If it's a work in progress, let it progress first then. This doesn't answer why you'd wikilink to this article in its first sentence though? --KP Botany (talk) 00:06, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- KP Botany, what are you talking about? --Una Smith (talk) 00:10, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- You wikilinked the common names in the first sentence to this artice.[1] Why? --KP Botany (talk) 00:15, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Or to another article which doesn't include any information about the plant. These are a list of common names for this plant. --KP Botany (talk) 00:16, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Because none of the common names are unique to this taxon. --Una Smith (talk) 00:22, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Then put a sentence in and redirect to an article about that, but don't redirect the article to this article in the first sentence without an explanation. A reader clicking on a link expects more information about the topic, not to be annoyingly taken to where he is! --KP Botany (talk) 00:27, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ah. KP Botany, I think your browser may not refresh pages in its cache. --Una Smith (talk) 07:40, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Also, note, now that you've made "bugseed" a dab page, there's no need to wikilink it to its disambiguation. This is handled by adding a small note in the article or to the top, when it is a direct redirect. Probably the dab is the place to discuss it being a common name for many plants, or, if you find some source about the reason for the common name you can include a link to other plants with the same common name.
Grammar
[edit]The article lead now says the goosefoot family known commonly as bugseed ... That is grammatically incorrect; the family is not known as such, and not all members of the genus are known as such either. I have tried twice to fix this, and been reverted. --Una Smith (talk) 00:08, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Then fix it without including the wikilinking to the same sentence! --KP Botany (talk) 00:28, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- KP Botany, what is the problem with wikilinking the common names? My POV is this: a reader finding one bugseed may want a different bugseed, so help the reader by wikilinking bugseed. --Una Smith (talk) 07:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
