Squared circle boxing, can you please explain the reasons why you believe it is not important enough to be on his wikipedia page, even though other athletes in similar situations have their drug test failures and suspensions in the lead of their articles. WP:LEAD may be of interest here. The current lead drug-stuff is not a summary of the drug-stuff in the body. If you combine/rewrite the article-content on this with what's currently in the lead, something like "He was temporarily suspended for drug-use in 2023" may fit there. Leave the details for the body. Agree with Gråbergs . While the drug/suspension stuff is worthy of inclusion—it's of encyclopedic value and referenced to an impeccable source—it should not be given undue weight in the lead, which should summarise the body. Ergo, if there are five sentences on the affair in the body, one to summarise in the lead should suffice. But there are certainly no grounds to exclude the material completely. It's mentioned in Armstrong's lead because it's pretty much all anybody knows him for nowadays, and there's a whole article about it. It's mentioned in Miller's lead because he failed multiple tests for multiple substances in the lead up to a world championship fight, and it isn't the first time he's failed and been banned (to be fair, that one could probably do with more detail regarding his other failed tests if it's adequately covered in the article). Benn failed one, was suspended, and "cleared"; he's not banned (he relinquished his BBBofC boxing license). If UKAD wins their appeal and issues a formal ban then it might warrant a mention. As it stands, it's not a significant aspect of his life/career so doesn't belong in the lead. – 2.O.Boxing12:32, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To these points, I would also argue it is what Conor Benn is predominantly known for now. There has been probably 30+ newspaper articles written about Conor failing his tests and being suspended. It is all that comes up when you search his name. Conor Benn also failed multiple tests. No it was not in the lead up to a championship fight, but it was in the lead up to undeniably the biggest fight of the year for UK boxing against Chris Eubank Jr. This is notable due to both fighter's dads having had two world famous fights in the 90s, with Chris Eubank Sr winning, therefore Conor Benn wanted revenge for his father Nigel Benn. I would argue due to the fact that Conor Benn has not fought anybody notable nor won any major titles, he is known almost exclusively as being the boxer that failed two drug tests in the week leading up to fighting Eubank Jr. He is not known for beating Van Heerden for example, most people could not even name one of his opponents, where as a lot of casual boxing fans could tell you Conor Benn was suspended for failing a drugs test. That the drug test comes up when you search his name is likely a case of WP:RECENTISM. I know little about boxing, but a quick search tells me he's primarily notable for holding the WBA Continental welterweight title. OhNoitsJamieTalk18:08, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. He actually failed the drug test over a year ago, but yes, potentially. The WBA Continental title isn't really a big title, it's the lowest level of WBA belts (international, inter continental, world, all higher), and WBA is just one (and not the most prestigious) of many boxing organizations, WBO, WBC, IBF, IBO, The Ring, etc. I'd be genuinely surprised if more than 10% of boxing fans could tell you Conor Benn holds the WBA Continental title, nevermind that the title exists. To clarify, he hasn't been 'cleared' as suggested earlier. The UKAD appeal means that the BBBoC will not issue a new license (after he relinquished), so therefore he cannot box in the UK.
