The point of this article
[edit]I don't understand the point of this page. And shouldn't "Congretional" be "Congresional"? Realkyhick 07:16, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, now I see the point. I fixed the misspelling by moving the article to the properly spelled title. I strongly encourage other campaigns to update this list, so it won't be one-sided (nothing against Mitt Romney, mind you). Realkyhick 19:25, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
This article is near-worthless, spelled right or not. And it's already self-contradictory — the detailed list shows McCain with 4 Senate endorsements while the summary at the top shows him with 1. Wasted Time R 19:34, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- This page is useful in that senator and congressman are delagates athte parties conventions so these endorsements are actually going to play a large role in who will be nominated, not just a list of who likes who. tpahl (talk) 05:59, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- Someone fixed that ... but now the McCain campaign article shows 7 Senate and 14 House endorsements, so this article is wrong again. You're never going to have this right; it all violates a bunch of database design principles. Wasted Time R 23:07, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- True about database design, but this is an article (sort of), not a database. I'm not terribly enamored with it, though, and I really think that endorsements are overrated these days — and that's from someone who's written one or two as a newspaper editor. Realkyhick 05:34, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Inclusion of Ron Paul in Summary Chart
[edit]At the top of the wiki is a list of candidates with endorsements other than their own. I see that Biden has one endorsement and is on the list at the top of the page for all to see. But what I don't see is Ron Paul's name. Just as Biden has one endorsement, Ron Paul has been endorsed by Rep. Walter B. Jones of North Carolina. I'm sure it wasn't an attempt to erase Ron Paul from the view of the public, I mean, who would do such a thing? Eric George Nordstrom (talk) 23:53, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
- The ommision of Paul in the summary is annoying, I will fix it. And fix it again after a Self described clinton supporter deleted it. Ron Paul has a congressional supporter besides himself. A congressman from NC. Walter B Jones. tpahl (talk) 05:59, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- I was unaware of Walter Jones's endorsement, I apologize. And for the record, me being a Clinton supporter has nothing to do with wanting the article to be accurate. Nevermore27 (talk) 00:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Walter B. Jones did not endrose Ron Paul. No one in Congress has endorsed Ron Paul except Ron Paul. Read the link given as a source, they basically just say he's a good guy. That's not an endorsement. Here's a link from The Hill: Ron Paul: 0 endorsements. http://thehill.com/endorsements-2008.html Paul's supporters are not helping him by repeatedly putting up these false endorsments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.180.178.15 (talk • contribs)
- I've been able to verify that Walter Jones endorsed Ron Paul via Roll Call. However, the previous source [1] is, as 69.180.178.15 said above, not a valid source for endorsements, as is evidenced by the inclusion of positive comments by John Duncan. Duncan supports Fred Thompson according to both Roll Call and The Hill. I've updated the article to reflect this. --Goobergunch|? 11:55, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
I can't remember
[edit]How to initiate a vote for deletion.... help? Tsoldrin 05:28, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
- You mean delete this page? Why do you want that? It's not doing any harm 42Strangelove 09:06, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
After the primaries
[edit]I was thinking that after the primaries for both parties, having this page won't really be necessary anymore, because it can be assumed that the candidates will have the support of their entire party. 42Strangelove 09:05, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
The Hill?
[edit]Is this list ahead of the Hill's website? Because The Hill shows Romney leading McCain in endorsements.Joseph Antley 01:17, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
- The Hill has been behind before, that much I know 42Strangelove 09:05, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, this list is ahead of the Hill. I was just cross-checking Clinton's endorsements, and the Wikipedia page has Cleaver and Pascrell, but the Hill doesn't. - PoliticalJunkie 22:37, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
The Honorable Thomas H. Kean, 9/11 Commission Chairman and former governor of New Jersey, joins a distinguished group of national security experts supporting John McCain, including: George P. Lehman Jr. Former Secretary of the Navy James R. Schlesinger Former Director of Central Intelligence Alexander M. Haig Jr. Former Secretary of State Robert C. Are non-Congressional endorsements tracked anywhere?

I think it would be a good idea to track non-Congressional Endorsments, but they should be limited only to people who count as delegates at the nominating convention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.233.99.136 (talk) 23:01, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- There's a very good list of Democratic superdelegate endorsements at 2008 Democratic Convention Watch Simon12 (talk) 04:29, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Split the parties
[edit]I think this page would be much easier to read if the Republican & Democratic parties were listed in separate tables! JimmB (talk) 01:21, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
This needs to be updated
[edit]I know that Brownback endorsed McCain when he pulled out of the race a long time ago. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.102.132.45 (talk) 13:14, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Self-endorsement
[edit]Obama and Clinton are both active Senators, and therefore both have superdelegate votes at the convention. Therefore, their self-endorsement is just as valid as any other endorsement, and should be so noted and counted. Simon12 (talk) 02:15, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- a valid point Nevermore27 (talk) 17:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Candidates who drop out
[edit]It appears that candidates who drop out (like Biden and Richardson) are being removed from the summary at the top. Does that mean that the chart will eventually get down to only listing endorsements for the eventual nominee for each party? If so, it seems kind of silly to see a chart listing all Democrats supporting the Democratic nominee and all Republicans supporting the Republican nominee. Nightkey (talk) 17:02, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- I would agree that once the nominees have been decided the article has no more use. Nevermore27 (talk) 17:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- If that's the case, it should be deleted as this serves no historical value. Yet John Kerry's endorsement of Obama will be an important historical footnote if Obama loses just as Al Gore's endorsement of Dean was a historical footnote. We should include prior as well as current endorsements for individual congress(wo)men instead of merely deleting them once a candidate has dropped out. --Aranae (talk) 05:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but oftentimes a congress(wo)man will change their endorsement once their previous candidate drops out. Nevermore27 (talk) 05:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Right. I was unclear. I meant to suggest that the record of endorsements be retained. For example, if a senator endorses Clinton at some future point after having started with Biden and Edwards, it should list "Clinton (Biden, Edwards)" with an explanation of what parentheses means at the bottom. --Aranae (talk) 06:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's perfectly fair, you are welcome to do that if you wish. Nevermore27 (talk) 00:40, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Sununu for McCain?
[edit]I am pretty sure that Sununu has stayed neutral in the 2008 election, even after McCain's NH win. This article from the Washington Post says that Sununu refuses to endorse a candidate. Is there an endorsement that I missed here? Plus, it's got no citation. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Let me know what you think. - Prezboy1 (talk) 14:46, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Fix It
[edit]Mel Martinez has endorsed John McCain. He was endorsed on 1/25/08. Would someone fix this. Mel Martinez is a senator from Florida. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.173.14.103 (talk) 23:19, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Someone also needs to change the graph at the top to 16 senate endorsments for John McCain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.105.179.35 (talk) 17:12, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Withdrawn endorsements / Rejected endorsements
[edit]Should withdrawn or rejected endorsements be listed on this page? I recall that Sen. Larry Craig endorsed Mitt Romney before Craig's guilty plea. Subsequently, Romney distanced himself from Craig. Nightkey (talk) 17:15, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
Barbara Boxer
[edit]Senator Barbara Boxer has stated that she will not endorse either candidate, but will cast her superdelegate vote for the winner of the primary in her state. She will therefore be voting for Clinton, but has not endorsed her. She says she hopes the nomination is not decided by superdelegates. Her voting intention can be reflected at Democratic Party (United States) superdelegates, 2008 but not here, as this article's purpose is to list explicit endorsements. See [2] (note: this is the source linked to by [3] which is the citation given when Sen. Boxer was listed on this page.)217.44.132.81 (talk) 15:21, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, and removed endorsement. --\/\/slack (talk) 04:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Feingold
[edit]Senator Feingold reported who he voted for, but never explicitly endorsed him. That may work as a superdelegate, but does it belong on this page?
--\/\/slack (talk) 04:04, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- No. Sorry, this keyboard has no tilde. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.170.62.189 (talk) 06:11, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
NC Reps story was later determined to be false
[edit]The story that all Dem. Reps. from NC would endorse Obama together turned out to be false. Unless someone can find a source saying they did endorse instead of one that says they will endorse, their addition should be reverted. --Aranae (talk) 04:43, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Image
[edit]Someone should make an image that compares senate endorsements to house endorsements to popular vote. Just a suggestion. 207.170.238.132 (talk) 21:52, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
'...do not have a vote'
[edit]I'm not sure if this '...do not have a vote' belongs here. This is a listing of endorsements, not of superdelegate votes. Superdelegate voting intentions are listed at List of Democratic Party (United States) superdelegates, 2008.Quelcrime (talk) 02:54, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
- I agree on that one. We have the Republicans here, too, and they're not even all superdelegates for the Republicans. This page is for congressional endorsements, not superdelegate votes. Whoever did that go a bit too caught up in primary fever, methinks.72.70.38.222 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 22:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
