[edit]What happened to this page, I would say that about 6 months ago it was massive and had tons of info on the band, but now it's all gone and there is a new page up, does any body know why? IanARichter 03:17, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, the "tons of info" was all a giant copyright violation. It was deleted, and I created this page from scratch. Chubbles 07:27, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- The "tons of information" was not "a giant copyright violation". It was written by the drummer and co-founder's wife (and publicist/production assistant/album cover designer and general "clean-up woman"). She just didn't provide the requisite references and one cannot write about things which have not been published somewhere else. She is the person who provided the bios to Sean Westergaard and Toby Walker used on AllMusicGuide.com and SoulWalking.com, respectively, which have been cited here as references. The info here is incomplete and incorrect. Dennis Johnson was never a member of Con Funk Shun nor was he signed with Mercury Records. He was a sideman brought in for the final album "Burning Love" after lead singer Felton Pilate left. A more complete bio of the band can be found at http://www.theloosebook.com/con_funk_shun_2/, the website of the late Louis A. McCall, Con Funk Shun's co-founder and drummer, murdered in June 1997 in a home invasion robbery outside Atlanta, GA . - If the drummer's wife has given permission for the text to be used on the site, she may assert that permission by releasing the text from copyright under the GFDL. In order to do so, she will need to write to OTRS and tell them that she is releasing it. Then we can use it on the site. Until then, we have to start from scratch. - She is willing to do anything necessary to get the correct information out about this band (and quite a few other topics, with over 35 years in the record business). After reading your page, she states that she is in agreement with many of your points about how difficult it is to add articles here. She too has been deleted more times than a predator's hard drive! What does she need to do? Would you mind contacting her directly via her personal email on this matter? (Is that allowed here? Very little else is.) :-) And would you help me create a personal page like yours? I love how you stand up for your beliefs here. - You can create your own userpage by clicking on your name above (the red link) - it will take you to the editing screen. So if she (you?) has material that she would like to be used on Wikipedia, but which is published elsewhere, then she needs to contact m:OTRS, the branch of Wikimedia that deals with legal issues such as copyright. She'll have to leave a message or e-mail them the permission to use the text and probably the text itself; details can be found at the OTRS page or at WP:COPY. - Thanks, Chubbles. (You/her? You got it!) There's just so much drama here that I feel uncomfortable doing or saying anything which might get me deleted at any level! I think I've got the userpage/red link thing understood, although I might have to ask for help from you again. And the OTRS process, at first I didn't see a way to send an email but I will figure it out. The problem that I have with this site is everything is so unnecessarily complicated, as if the creators want to make it seem like only highly intellectual people are allowed to participate. And about 99.99999% of the members have this haughty self-righteous attitude when dealing with the rest of us. Surprisingly, the very few members who have been kind enough to help stupid folks like me - with only 35 years in the record business, a law school education, and a high IQ (sorry, Chubs, LOL) - are experts in the entertainment field! You are one of that rare breed who understands how much more powerful this very influential site could be if it wasn't run like "The Order of Skull and Bones!!! That said, I will do the permission thing. Will you be the person editing this article since you added it? I sincerely hope so. Oh, yeah, how does one add those funny and interesting little info boxes that you have on your page? I just love your unfettered and honest view on life. Thanks so much again for your help and patience. OhMyGoddess (talk) 21:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)OhMyGoddessOhMyGoddess (talk) 21:06, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- One other thing to keep in mind is, Wikipedia has strict rules about conflict of interest, and you should probably read them. You'll need to step gingerly here; the site does not accept contributions that act as advertisements. Whatever is added needs to be purely informational and neutral in presentation and content. Chubbles (talk) 21:32, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think that I've gotten my "hand slapped" enough time to understand a bit of the guidelines here. :-) That's why I just stepped away for a while. But I want my late husband's band to be represented just like the others of that era. It deserves at least that much. Their music is still being released and/or sampled by contemporary artists. I am counting on you to assist me with staying with the Wikipedia rules and regulations. In fact, I would appreciate it if you would make the contribution, just using the same info from the site above which was provided to AllMusicGuide.com and SoulWalking.com. That would insure its neutrality. Thanks again for reminding me about this issue. OhMyGoddess (talk) 22:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)OhMyGoddessOhMyGoddess (talk) 22:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
- The other relevant policies and guidelines to keep in mind, in addition to those mentioned, are: Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Citing sources. dissolvetalk 23:02, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

How is Louis still a member?
[edit]How is Louis still a member if he’s dead? This doesn’t make any sense at all. 2601:406:4200:8E90:B89E:EF73:D51D:B9F4 (talk) 20:26, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
