Scott Regarding Compass Resources page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compass_Resources - might I ask you consider if it would not be more appropriate to revert to Golden Wattle's original work as it was simply factual and unbiased and protect that work rather than locking and protecting a page, the neutrality of which is listed as disputed, clearly biased and making unsupported and potentially defamatory comments and accusations. Might I at least ask you consider deleting the link to copyright infringement contained in the protected page Compass Resources NL (2005). I froze it because neither later version looked as good, and I was too busy in RL to choose a version based on content. I'd rather try to clean up a longer version than start essentially from scratch. It appears that Rum Jungle, Northern Territory is related, and maybe some info needs to move between these two articles. Alleged lies about development

Despite widespread community concerns about uranium present in the ore and possible radioactive contaminants in the tailings and the waste water, the company has struggled to inform locals. A public meeting in 2005 heard Compass director Rod Elvish repeatedly state that Browns has no uranium, only to be forced to correct himself each time in response to questions from the floor. More recently, the company has refused to comply with a recommendation from the Northern Territory's EPA to allow public consultation on the development of a Radiation Management Plan for the project. The RMP was written by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), but was never shared with the public, and now hides behind the commercial confidentiality of the Brown's Oxide Mining Management Plan. Opponents of the mine warn that ANSTO are inescapably compromised by their ultimate responsibility for the unresolved pollution issues presented by the abandoned Rum Jungle uranium pits.

The old uranium mines were run by ANSTO's predecessor, the Australian Atomic Energy Commission, exclusively to provide uranium for British and American weapons programs. Since the military contracts expired, the NT Government has been arguing for appropriate rehabilitation. When the mine was abandoned in 1971, no significant rehabilitation was carried out. It wasn’t until 1983 that the Commonwealth finally addressed some of the major contamination sources. In 1991, further work was undertaken to reduce pollution at Rum Jungle Creek South, which had become a popular crocodile-free lake. Despite these attempts at cleaning up, contamination sources have yet to be adequately contained, particularly the contaminated groundwater and failing cappings on the tailings piles. With the entrance of Compass, it is becoming even less clear just who bears responsibility for what contamination, with environmentalists warning that drawdown from the old pits could exacerbate pollution issues.

Thanx for your work Scott and Golden Wattle - yes the section “alleged lies” with unsupported allegations and emotive words etc is what the argument was largely about – at least from my side - I was the one removing it previously. There are plenty of forums to debate issues that some perceive exist but a wiki encyclopedia page is not such a forum Chriso au 05:06, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

My first issue was the battle was making the article look worse - I didn't look at content initially, and still haven't reviewed the competing versions. If you have a proposal to add stuff that's not there now, please put it here if you're not yet able to edit the page directly. The "one reference" of http://www.compass-resources.info appears to be an attack site spoof of the company's official website http://www.compassnl.com.au/ The so-called reference is not a reliable source according to Wikipedia policy. I doubt that the Nuclear Territory News is any better. Try sourcing from the Northern Territory News instead. --Scott Davis ^Talk 02:05, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

I don't have time to read the ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS published by the NT Governent at the moment to see if that covers the environment stuff you're looking for. Today I added the big news that CMR have lodged an application to convert their exploration licence at Mt Fitch to a Mining Licence. This is the biggest step taken so far in australia's current uranium boom, and makes Mt Fitch look more than ever like the test case as the first new uranium mine in this country in over 20 years.

Scott : I disagree with your flippant rejection of my sources. the compass-resources.info site is a valid demonstration of community discontent with this uranium miner. the ntne.ws site is a collection of conventional media articles (and media releases) related to rum jungle.

Hello again Can I suggest the link to http://www.compass-resources.info be removed – not for the sake of censorship as such but simply because it is improper and deceptive - I note the person who put it up has posted his argument that a prior host of the page removed it Compass advised them it breached copyright and raised other actionable issues as enunciated by the company’s lawyer (and Director) – wonder why Justine didn’t put that part in his argument to have his link reinstated

I have no problem with truthful accurate information bein gmade available on wiki and use it myself - but again - there are plenty of forums to twist the truth and vent anti everything agendas without using wiki as such a forum
