My Favourite Quote
[edit]hey guys... I'd love to include my favourite CBG quote. I can't remember it verbatim but it's along the lines of "Hmm... Internet King - maybe he can get me fastern porn downloads". Does anyone know the exact quote? Thanks, Trialex 01:42, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- I think it's "Internet King, maybe he can provide faster nudity." Adam Bishop 06:36, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- Include it. It's a classic. eyeresist 11:54 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry, it may be funny but providing humour isn't a purpose of this site, so you'd have to have some other justification for putting it in the article.--A gx7 11:49, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

Death?
[edit]In a pub quiz yesterday (the 29th of November) one question hinged on the fact that this character had died. Is this true? If so surely it should be mentioned in the article? If not I know a pub that owes me a drink. MagicBez 18:08, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- He has died in various Halloween episodes, but not for real, as far as I know. Adam Bishop 06:36, 1 December 2005 (UTC)
- Yeah Halloween episodes didn't count for the quiz - I was told that he had had a heart attack? Those people almost definitely owe me a drink. MagicBez 02:56, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- He had a heart attack or 'Cardiac Episode' (Worst Episode Ever), but it wasn't fatal. If you need proof, coincidentally, Worst Episode Ever is in Channel 4 on Friday in the UK at 8:30pm. smurrayinchester(User), (Ho Ho Ho!) 16:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
My quote
[edit]I'm unsure as to why my CBG quote "Oh, I've wasted my life" was removed. IMO, it's a memorable one that aptly sums him up as a character. Any opinions on this? I won't re-add it on fear of sparking a revert war, but I'd like to know the reasons. --Psyk0 12:48, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry, it seemed like vandalism. We get a lot of Simpsons vandalism and sometimes I (for one) just revert instead of fixing things. The quote is from a Halloween episode when France bombs Springfield, not the juicer/virus episode. Adam Bishop 16:26, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
CBG Quote
[edit]The Quote: "Well, for this card, I can only give you (gasps) EVERYTHING I HAVE! (empties the entire cash register on the counter and gives Homer the cash)" is partly incorrect. CBG says "EVERYTHING I'VE GOT!" instead of "EVERYTHING I HAVE!" Ladysway1985 02:08, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
which is a computing joke referring to the Dick and Jane series of books, from which mid-20th-century American schoolchildren learned to read and which contained the words "See Spot. See Spot Run. Run, Spot, Run." It also refers to something that could be typed at the command prompt of the DOS (Disk Operating System) and is pronounced as "See DOS. See DOS run. Run DOS run." deleted due to irrelevance. And insulting our intellegence.
Annoyances
[edit]Whenever someone uses "Best/Worst. _____. Ever." on a message board, I feel like scooping out his eyeballs with a disease-laden spoon. Please tell me I am not the only one who feels this way. The Trashman 01:02, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Attribution?
[edit]Can anyone provide attribution for the quote, "Hank Azaria based the character on a real person who lived next door to him during his freshman year of college at Tufts University."?
Because, as far as I know:
- Hank Azaria didn't create the character, he simply voiced him
- Comic Book Guy was based on a friend of David X. Cohen's at Harvard
I can't verify the second fact as it is only from knowing the man personally (nor would I want to drag his name through the mud—there are no current references on the internet to him being the inspiration for Comic Book Guy). Shy 00:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Suggest changing to "based the voice of the character on a real person"
eyeresist 11:56, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Hank Azaria stated the voice was a poor impersonation of his roomate in an interview on Conan within the last year or two, there may be videos out there somewhere but I recall watching the original broadcast and he was poking fun at him with a hilarious quote in CBG's voice ' You are on my list !'Mcbean 21:01, 22 April 2006 (UTC) -Hank said it on Late Night with Conan O´Brien 12 April 2006. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.55.90.110 (talk) 14:17, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
If you ever read "Confederacy of Dunces" it is pretty obvious who the "Comic Book Guy" is based off of: Ignatius Riley. Of course, I do not have any proof, aside from the idiosyncries and circumstances both share. Plus, if you take into account how and where other characters of the Simpsons derive from, this is a logical claim.
Let me add: I just finished reading Confederacy of Dunces and the I agree with this attribution.
- From Ralph Bakshi:
- He is widely believed to be the inspiration for the character of Comic Book Guy on The Simpsons
I totally agree. Reference should be made to Ignatius and ACOD. They are largely similar in physical description. Their use of language and exclamation is identical. They both hold, or held menial jobs. They both have a bloated sense of self-importance. Ignatius detests modern culture except for Batman, whom he admires for his moral prinicples. Ignatius detests modern culture and is addicted to film, a smybolic technology of the modern era, which is what the jeff is all about. Matt Groening ripped this character off and it should be refenced, or the "inspiration" should be noted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.238.88.55 (talk) 19:20, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
what did he say in an episode
[edit]where he spoke klingon?
i think it was the word for loniless something like "baaakk ddddddaaaaaaarrrrrr?
and which episode was it?
Pece Kocovski 03:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- That's wrong! It was "Garrrdack!" an he said it in "Worst Episode Ever!"
Oh, well is there a word that says BakDar? Pece Kocovski 06:12, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
Trekker? Wasn't it Dr. Who?
[edit]Am I imagining things, or is there a small problem with CBG's ultimate belt? I was under the impression that he won it at a Dr. Who Marathon/Convention...is my memory playing tricks on me? I'd edit it, but I can't find the script to confirmand I don't want to do anything that would anger the WikiGods. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.116.182.235 (talk • contribs) 04:19, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, it was definitely a Star Trek convention... although he once purchased a wheelbarrow full of tacos to provide "adequate sustenance" for a Doctor Who marathon. You're probably thinking of that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.59.204.64 (talk • contribs) 15:51, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Name
[edit]IIRC it was "Jeff" in the episode. So, as long as we don't know the full name, it shouldn't be "Jeffery", "Jeffrey" or "Geoffrey"... well you get the drift. Zenmiester 17:12, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I see it listed as "Jeff" twice in this article and "Geoff" once. Can anybody point to any printed authoritative source or, just maybe, official Simpsons website or merchandise that will resolve this conflict? - Dravecky 03:01, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
hes called "Jeff Albertson" according to http://animatedtv.about.com/cs/faqs/f/faqsimpcbg.htm and if you turn on closed captions in the episode it will prove this correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.17.79.168 (talk) 09:27, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

More about the character in general
[edit]This article has too much obscure details revealed in a single episode and very little about the character in general. What does he usually say and do? Some quotes would be nice. --Apoc2400 (talk) 20:53, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Masters in Folk Lore?
[edit]I could have sworn Comic Book Guy said he had a Ph.D. in folklore and not a masters. I'd change it, but I don't have access to the episode where he makes the comment. --Jazz Remington (talk) 09:26, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
He was on an episode of another show. If a fan of the character hasn't heard this and doesn't watch The Cleveland Show, then it would be useful to have this information here.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 17:58, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
