Cloth of Gold = Bivalve Beard Fabric?
[edit]I was under the impression that cloth of gold was a fabric created from the "beards" of certain bivalves. I know that it was said to be so fine that a dress of cloth-of-gold could be drawn through a ring - that doesn't seem like it would be likely with actual gold involved. I don't doubt the current explanation, but is it the only one? Graidan (talk) 07:30, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
If I'm wrong, then at the very least, this common error should be addressed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.240.12.103 (talk) 07:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- That's Byssus, but I will link it. Johnbod (talk) 10:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

gold filé ?
[edit]What is "gold filé"? I cannot find this referred to anywhere. I only know the term "filé" as the sasafrass thickener used in Gumbo. -Arch dude (talk) 02:47, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
"marramas"
[edit]The mention of "marramas" is dubious. Supposedly it's a cloth from 14th-century China, but the cited source only calls it "oriental". A google search only seems to bring up similarly-worded definitions of "marramas" or "mattabas" which are probably derived from this article. I'm tempted to remove this entirely unless something more reliable is found. — ʀoyoтϵ 20:45, 16 August 2015 (UTC)
