Death numbers

[edit]

Library of Congress has a link: https://guides.loc.gov/chronicling-america-cloquet-fire to newspaper coverage from 1918 which says the deaths are in 1000s. The National Weather Service also agrees with the 1000 death number: https://www.weather.gov/dlh/MooseLake_Cloquet_1918Fires. The death number in the Wikipedia article says 453 which is also found in some sources. This needs clarification. Germsteel (talk) 04:55, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Context of fire

[edit]

I think this article should include what is written on the wayside marker of the Minnesota Historical Society-- that the fire started on slash leftover from lumbering and that this was a common occurrence: "Like other major fires, this one took place on cut-over land--the stumps and waste that remained after the great pine forests of north-eastern Minnesota were harvested for lumber." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:E000:D400:2300:AE81:12FF:FE9C:DC68 (talk) 00:29, 20 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
