Proportion
[edit]There should be a section about how Clifford is sometimes as big as a two story house and the next minute he's eight feet tall. His size constantly varies and it's annoying as hell 4.143.238.21 (talk) 22:41, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Bill
This page vs Clifford the Big Red Dog (TV series)
[edit]Is there a need for a seperate page for the TV series? Most of this article is actually about the TV series (e.g. voice actors), so if we are maintaining two seperate pages, this content should be moved to the newer page.
I believe that at least 8 of the pages that link here are to do with the TV series.
I'd vote to keep the books and the series as one page.

- Agreed. Redirected. BillyH 14:19, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- I found this article more focused on the TV series than the books. :( Dunro 03:33, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- It still seems to be a conflation of information about the books and other information about the TV show. I've read a lot of Clifford books as a kid and as a dad, and I don't think Cleo, T-Bone, or Birdwell Island were in any of the books--at least not any of the books that preceded the tv show. And if they have appeared in books since the TV show, that should be presented as well. PurpleChez (talk) 17:26, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

I've tried to rewrite this page because some of the grammar didn't make any sense. 01/08/05
Wikify tag
[edit]Why has this got a Wikify tag? I realise that there aren't any links in the "Cast" section, but what could be linked from there? Sheriff, maybe, but that's about it.
I'd vote to remove the tag.
--JimmyTheWig 12:00, 11 August 2005 (UTC)
It looks like Lucky 6.9 agrees with me, as they removed the tag. --JimmyTheWig 08:11, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry about the tag. Maoririder tags just about everything he's ever edited. I have my doubts about whether he really understands the purpose of such tags. Soltak 21:57, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
More about the books, please!
[edit]It would be great if someone could write some details about the books. Bridwell's deadpan sense of humor is quite different from the way his characters were used in the series. Michael Kinyon 14:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I LOVE this show!
This show totally rocks! Noliandynamite (talk) 22:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)
This has to stop.
[edit]Someone is messing this article up. (S)He is putting absurd dates and incorrect/made-up actors. And the place is not Mars either. TechMath (talk) 20:53, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed it. In the future, should you want to fix it yourself, here's how: go to the last un-screwed-up version of the article, and make sure it's the one you want kept (the pre-mess one). In the edit summary, put "rvv" (for "reverted vandalism", assuming that's what you did!) and tjen click SAVE. Presto--instant VandalBeGone! :) Gladys J Cortez 23:56, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]I removed the list of episodes and placed below. They were placed in a bad location, but even more are they even necessary to the page? The list does not add info that helps develop an understanding of the show. Jons63 (talk) 20:36, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

- Personally, I think episode lists are helpful--at least, as a stepping-stone to actual episode SUMMARIES, which are better still. Since so many summaries on WP are copyvios, however, I'm currently up to my eyeballs dealing with rewrites of existing summaries; once my personal to-do list of those are done, I'll happily move on to creating summaries for newly-added lists.
I'm content to leave this list here til then, however, largely since you were kind enough to put it somewhere safe and to actually TALK about your objections instead of just deleting it and giving no reason.:) (Hey, you know, if you've got nothing to do, YOU could start working on an episode summary...hmm? Whaddya say??? :) )Gladys J Cortez 00:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I would not be able to do that, even if I had the time. I have never seen the show and really am not interested in the show at all. I think WP:TW:Twinkle add this to my watch list when I was recent change patrolling and reverted some vandalism. Jons63 (talk) 18:19, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
I have reverted the change made today.
[edit]Since there has been no discussion, no consensus, nothing that even HINTED that this change was in the works, I have reverted the enormous change made today. A change of this magnitude absolutely DEMANDS collaboration, not the unilateral decision of one editor out of the blue. GJC 01:35, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Electing to make seperate article for animated TV series.
[edit]A new change I did to this article, to make it about just the books, is under dispute by one user, who suggested I make a discussion about it before taking it upon myself to make a complete change to this article.
I really think this page should be about the books, and a separate article be made for the TV series. It's a sensible idea, for two reasons:
- I happen to be fan of the Clifford storybooks, and I'm rather disheartened that there is next to no information on them here. What little information there is on them is inaccurate, also. (ie.: The first book was published in 1963, not ten years later, and Clifford & Emily lived in an unnamed suburb, not on Bridwell Island, which was in the TV series). I would like to see the book series have its own article (and include a note and link to the TV series article on top).
- Having this article about the books and the TV series is a horrible idea. You end up with a scope creep, which is something you really want to avoid. It's a great idea to expand this article and branch it out into different articles (especially about the other animated productions by Nelvana and other companies). It's a fascinating lesson to be learned from articles about other established works, which have done similar expansions. (And no, even if I start it, I can't do this article alone; OF COURSE other people have to expand on it! It's common sense.)
Let's think about this. Ryuuseipro (talk) 16:15, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Point of clarity: the CHANGE itself is not what I objected to. I happen to agree with you that the article should be split--and there are other articles to which I think the same division needs to be done (Rainbow Fish and Noddy are two that come to mind. My objection was to the way you chose to make the change--unannounced, with no prior discussion that even indicated that anyone else thought there was a problem. This is much better. Thank you very much--let's see what everyone else thinks now.
I Still Think There Is A Small Problem
[edit]Is this the only Clifford The Big Red Dog article? There is little information about the original books. Also the series starring John Ritter is NOT the first series involving Clifford The Big Red Dog... I don't know when it was made, who animated it, and it did not have the familiar characters. It was focused on elementary education and had annoying songs about Onomatopoeia for example. I have not seen this in years but I still can't get that song out of my head. I am going to see if I can look for it at BCDB, and perhaps add it in a paragraph..... And about the classic books, should there not be an article called "List Of Clifford Books" ?????????? In-Correct (talk) 04:34, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- So it seems like this gets discussed every so often on this page and then nothing happens. I would propose that this be a general page with links to main articles on the TV show and perhaps to the books. I think this page has potential but needs some substantial work.Barkeep49 (talk) 16:19, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
The series that you refer to was done by the Scholastic Corporation in the 1980s as an educational tool. I believe that the characters of T-Bone and Cleo were created for the 2000 show. The brave celery (talk) 21:39, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Breed
[edit]Someone has changed the breed that Clifford is based on to Vizsla. I'm reverting it back to bloodhound. The "Meet the Writer" article cited as the reference on barnesandnoble.com clearly states that Bridwell based him off of a "horse-sized bloodhound". Ygbsm (talk) 12:55, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Title
[edit]I suggest that this article's title be moved to just "Clifford" (of course, the current article "Clifford" would become "Clifford (disambiguation)"). This big dog Clifford is, i think, the Clifford that people are most likely to know about. (See Wikipedia:Article titles, Primary topic, Moving a page and Requested moves.) In other words, this big red dog, IMO, qualifies as the "primary topic" for the name Clifford. Or perhaps instead the article Clifford (character) (about the character specifically; compare the articles Harry Potter and Harry Potter (character), Xena the Warrior Princess and Xena) should get the retitling as simply "Clifford"?--Solomonfromfinland (talk) 18:30, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
