NPOV
[edit]I responded to the call for NPOV on this article and found the entry to only state that "Clericalism is elitism in the church" so I re-wrote and expanded the article greatly. Please add examples, esp from churches aside from the Roman Catholic, of clericalism and the varied applications of this term to balance things out.--Mike 02:51, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Clerical culture
[edit]A similar term for clericalism is clerical culture, although it does not necessarily have the same negative connotation as clericalism. It would be interesting of we had a sociological entry on the concept of clerical culture. [1] ADM (talk) 08:18, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Quote
[edit]The Léon Gambetta quote that "Clericalism is the enemy" needs a citation and could use some context. RJFJR (talk) 16:31, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Clericalism in politics
[edit]In my experience in European history, the term "clericalism" is exclusively a pejorative term used by its anti-clericalist opponents. I think the self-described term for a political movement which sought explicit endorsement from an established church (eg. the Catholic Party (Belgium)) would be "confessional". At the moment, our article on Confessionalism (politics) deals exclusively with the phenomenon at the level of a political system rather than as an ideological position but it should probably be more closely linked with this article. —Brigade Piron (talk) 19:59, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Not reliabe article
[edit]This article mentions clericalism in its catholic version. There is no information within the rest of Christian denominations as well as other religions like buddhism, hiduism or islam The Wolak (talk) 18:37, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
