Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Personal recollection
[edit]Back in my days in the Uranium exploration business, I recall hearing that the ore at Cigar Lake was so high grade that the company had to install shielding behind the seats of the LHD trucks, so as not to over-expose the drivers to radiation! Needless to say, all miners were required to wear dosimeters at work. This was likely a convention-story, but would make a nice add if it could be reliably sourced. --Pete Tillman (talk) 06:28, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Pete Tillman: Hello, I think I may have found a citation that supports this. On this 2021 Cameco Corporation document attached below, it mentions multiple shielding methods used to separate the Uranium from the workers in some kind of transport, but it doesn't specifically mention trucks. Not sure if this works, and if it does I'm not sure exactly where it would go in the article, but I still wanted to ping you if this is correct! --Johnson524 (talk) 22:00, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for this. Might have a better home in a general Industrial rad-health article?
- I was a uranium exploration geologist for quite a few years, and met a Cameco guy who used to work at Cigar Lake then or earlier. By far the highest-grade uranium mine, then or ever? Though the Shinkolobwe deposit was richer (most likely) before it began to spontaneously fission -- the (locally) famous natural reactors! SFAIK, the only known instance, and that was a LONG time ago, when there was more U-235 to get things going....
- If you happen to be a fellow SF fan, Charlie Stross imagines a young planet with MUCH higher U-235 content in his novel "Neptune's Brood", and you can read my take here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1669257807 VERY entertaining book, if it's your sort of thing. Young Communist squids that mine the stuff, and export it with U-235-powered rockets that have a failure rate of 'only' 1-2%....
- Sounds interesting, might have to take a look! --Johnson524 (talk) 01:30, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Hus best spce-opera, in my opinion. Rang all my chimes! Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:49, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
