Lack of English-language information on Danish frescos
[edit]Although the church frescos in Denmark are viewed as important part of the national heritage and are a major tourist attraction in certain areas of the country, I have been unable to find many English-language sources or references on the subject. Perhaps I have been looking in the wrong places! Searches on kalkmalerier provide essentially Danish content and those on frescos rarely include Denmark. If anyone can help out here, please let me know or simply edit the article itself with appropriate references. Thanks in advance. Ipigott (talk) 09:54, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Re your query on another page - it's too late for DYK I'm afraid. They have to be submitted within 5 days of starting/expanding the article. I don't know any sources, but you should search Google, including books & scholar on say: "fresco Place church" "fresco style/school", & follow any bibliographies. Eg "Sulsted fresco" turns up this, where the 1st one looks useful, if you can find a copy. Or this search. Dodwell, C.R.; The Pictorial arts of the West, 800-1200, 1993, Yale UP, ISBN 0300064934, pp 317-8 has about 3,000 words on Danish & Swedish painting before about 1200. I have this & may add sometime. On the Danish side, his citations to English works are to: Aron Andersson the art of scandinavia, london 1970 vol ii, & E.W. Athony, Romanesque Frescoes, Princeton 1951, plus Danish books. Hope this helps. The Dodwell is a standard work & fairly easy to find, but you'd need a serious art history liubrary for the others I imagine. Johnbod (talk) 14:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
Rating
[edit]Maybe this article is on the short side for a B rating but anything less would fail to reflact the excellent quality of the writing, illustrations and research. As for the importance, I guess that's subjective but since it is a phenomenon typical of the region I will go with high.Ramblersen (talk) 07:40, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
