I was going to move the "expand" tag here, but there's no special reason given, and the "stub" tag seems to do whatever's needed. Note that {{expand}} goes on Talk pages, not on articles, though. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:40, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

is the 'politician' tag appropriate here? it doesn't appear he's ever run for any office or has any such intention HunterAmor 18:07, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that there's a "diplomat" stub, and I suppose that "politician" comes closest. It's a political appointment in the U.S., isn't it? Perhaps that's justification enough. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:24, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Except that he was not a political appointee, since he was a career Foreign Service officer. But I suppose politician comes closest to refer to anyone working in government....

Could someone with the technical skills required make a diplomat stub, pretty please? And anon above is correct, career Foreign Service officers are basically non-political appointees by definition. -Fsotrain09 18:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The UCSD lecture info was useless and unnecessary.

No Original Research

[edit]

212.32.73.161 made the following addition on August 15, 2007 and left the message "Made a number of additions to the record of his diplomatic career based on personal knowledge."

  • In 1999, while serving as Ambassador to Macedonia, he became the lead US negotiator on Kosovo, and played a key role in the failure to negotiate an agreement on Kosovo with the Serbs and the coming of that war. During that period he masteredthe art of standing just far enough behind and to the right of Holbrooke that his face would be visible over Holbrooke's shoulder when the latter was speaking to the TV cameras. Despite the failure to find a peaceful solution Hill received the Robert S. Frasure Award for Peace Negotiations for that effort.

I have deleted this section because I believe it violates the "No Original Research" rule. "It introduces an analysis or synthesis of established facts, ideas, opinions, or arguments in a way that builds a particular case favored by the editor, without attributing that analysis or synthesis to a reputable source."

In addition the whole paragraph sounds POV. Reservoirhill 20:26, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also Controversial and Unsourced

[edit]

The deleted statement was also controversial and unsourced, and therefor violates the policy on biographies of living persons. Reservoirhill 02:50, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tone

[edit]

The tone at a lot of points in the article does not seem very encyclopedic.--Jickyincognito 09:48, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place

[edit]

Was he born in Paris or Rhode Island? Both places are given in various sources. Badagnani 19:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No objective research

[edit]

Hill has clearly written this article himself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.77.117.7 (talk) 12:54, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion of recent edits

[edit]

I reverted a group of edits by a new account which seemed to have been created only to edit this article. It was blocked because the name (Chrisandjulie) pretty clearly stated it was not being used by a single editor. The edits, on the other hand, were reverted because they seemed determined to improve Hill's image, but contained no links to any evidence backing up their complaints. Could somebody else take a look at what I reverted and decide if I did the right thing here? --Orange Mike | Talk 20:05, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kind of bogus article written in hagiographical style

[edit]

Many sections are in present tense yet refer to events over a decade old; looks like cut and paste from old newspaper accounts. No followup on the disastrous failure of the Six-Party talks, which collapsed partly due to Hill's trying to get a political "deal" which turned out to have very little actual content, and which the Bush administration seemed anyway disinclined to actually give any substance; they just wanted to announce a "deal." If Hill didn't engineer this, he's still a party to it, and to the fallout which, as of 2016, includes a much more powerful North Korea, at least in nuclear terms, one which endangers the security of South Korea, and doesn't do much for either regional or global security. That needs to at least be canvassed in this article. Theonemacduff (talk) 17:21, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
