Factual evidence needed

"Media and eyewitnesses viewed Marty as a hero as he flew the aircraft towards a less populated area..." Do we have any factual evidence backing this up? The duty, intention, and efforts of any pilot under such circumstances is to fly the plane until it can be safely landed, rather than finding an acceptable place to crash.
