Author of "Die Forelle"
[edit]Should the article mention "Die Forelle," the poem later set to music by Franz Schubert? Here is the relevant text from the article on the lied:
The text is from a poem by Christian Friedrich Daniel Schubart, originally published in the Schwäbischen Musenalmanach of 1783. While the poem is seemingly concerned with a trout being caught by a fisherman, the final stanza reveals it to be a moral piece warning young women to be on their guard against young men. When Shubert put the poem to music, he removed the last verse which contained the moral. In doing so he opened the song for either male or female singers. Errors
[edit]Schubart was not arrested in Ulm. As a free imperial city, Ulm provided a sanctuary for Schubart. He was lured to Württemberg under a pretext, and arrested there. His treatment in prison was not "lenient." He was initially held incommunicado with no access to writing materials or reading matter, other than Pietistic texts which he despised. For the first three years he was not permitted to write to his wife. After his case became famous, and his health had deteriorated to the point where his life was in danger, the harsh conditions were relaxed somewhat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.27.104.103 (talk) 02:18, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
