Re: Dvorak's chamber music
[edit]Dear Ishboyfay.
I'd like to continue the quartets (next two have again a link with the 3 I was writing about: Wagner, second quartet in one big movement, even though he chopped it up again, leaving the andante appassionato). Where I stopped for now, should also be mentioned that he reworked the nocturne for violin, but only brief. His 7th with its schubertian qualities, like Chadwicks 3rd (wont mention that in the article). His 9th dedicated to Brahms, who checked the publishing drafts. 10 with even more nationalistic elements. 11 with the haste (already a concert date, but no note on paper yet.) Let the waltzes and cypresses be part of it, which gives an interesting discussion point about the quartet satz in F, for isn't Schubert's quartettsatz not a numbered quartet? I was even thinking of mentioning the quartet fragments that survive.
The piano quintets, its short but very interesting, that the second is the result of an abandoned attempt to give the first a clean cut like he did with his first string quartet. Which would probably be my introduction to the paragraph (point towards the clean cut in the first string quartet to mention that he also had a quintet from the early period etc etc)
Then the piano trio's, for I'm inclined to think of the nocturne for violin and piano as an arrangement, and not an original piece. I'm not sure yet. Interesting here is that the second piano trio is also a new style in composing (less themes). Again an interesting discussion point is raised by the dumky. Why is dumky his 4th piano trio, and the cypresses not a numbered string quartet.
Then is piano quartets. I think the bagatelles should be part of this section. They might also be in a section for amateur music. (then that would be the string trio's and bagatelles in one group)
The sextet. (Nice idea to put in the quartet-part at this period Schönberg's quartet 0 in mind, for it's so much like the Dvorák sextet in ambiance, I know that's a no-can-do)
Then duo pieces, where the nocturne will be mentioned a bit better (Its written for Göbl I believe).
As last section, if there's no amateur section the string trio's.
I never thought of trumpets as chamber music instruments, especially not if they're intended as fanfare instrument ... (I know of saint saens septet)
I was wondering if my structure is correct. I started this with a semi chronological idea as structure. The first time he wrote for some ensemble is the first group handled, therefore quintet, quartet etc. But I was wondering if an ignorant reader would come along it would be better readable if it starts with duo's, then trio's. It could always be turned around off course.
that's the structure I had in mind. Basboy (talk) 01:27, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
I think I can guess where you spent the afternoon... :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:21, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well, yes, but not in person. I watched the Met broadcast from a movie theatre in Ohio. To my surprise, there was no Wikipedia page. I hope some other fans notice the stub and begin to improve it. Thanks! Ishboyfay (talk) 01:31, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
- Well, nor was I - I was watching from Northern Virginia. I took the liberty of adding a few categories for you - excellent work, and happy editing! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:45, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
