The article says: Chinese traveller and chronicler Chau Ju-kua, who travelled in the Chola country c 1178. I have been reading up a bit on Chau Ju-kau, but cannot find evidence that he was in fact a traveller, just a chronicler writing within China (about foreign places, among others Chola). I'm also puzzled where the 1178 date comes from: he wrote he chronicles in 1225 or thereabouts. Could someone please cite a reference? Martijn Faassen 23:29, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I since dug up a reference to an older geography written in 1178, Ling-wai-tai-ta by another author Chou Ch’u-fei. The geography written by Chau Ju-kua bases much of its content on this earlier work. Perhaps this introduced the 1178 date, though I still don't have any indications that Chou Ch’u-fei was a traveller. Martijn Faassen 00:03, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article investigation

[edit]

The article needs verifying for the source cited. Many of the sources are incomplete or lack parameters such as titles, years, exact pages, etc. It does not seem to be neutral either, the existing claims lack comparison sources. Some of the parts borrowed text from the page Chola Navy, which has been investigated. After investigation it is found that the article contained many fraudulent claims, the problems found in the article include using fake sources and misattributed sources, lacking additional references for comparison, and using a fraudulent image as its support. Problems that need to be addressed are:
1. POV: Is a claim biased or expressing somebody's POV as fact? It would be better to have more comparison sources
2. Notability: Is the source cited come from a credible source or self-published? What is the work used? Who is the creator? What is the publisher? A background check for the author is needed—We don't want some chauvinistic person's citation to go unnoticed, also back to no.1
3. Reference improvement: Verify the source, can the claim be found in the cited source? Does the cited source exist at all? If a cited source lacks a parameter then add it. Also, the footnotes need citations too—Otherwise, it's the same as making up a personal (original) comment or a lie. Section removed

[edit]

I have removed the Strength section which used a book called Masala History by Siva Volume - 1: The History they don't teach at School. That book did mention what in the section, unfortunately, it does not use any source or citation whatsoever. The book was more like a nationalist book, the chapter is titled Rajendra Chola vs. Mahmud of Ghazni, a strange comparison if this meant to be an academic book.
