V-shaped chisels
[edit]You guys should not forget about the V-shaped chisels (German name: Geißfuß, "she-goat's foot") used in linocut, for example. -andy 78.51.73.91 (talk) 14:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Needs rewording
[edit]Japanese Woodworking Chisels reads like an advert, and adds little if anything to the discussion of chisels. Also, Lathe Tools should not be a subheading. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.4.28 (talk) 01:20, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Redirection to German wiki
[edit]I came across a slight problem. This page is redirected to "Meißel". Which is a minor part in the article. The English has one word only for German: "Meißel" and "Beitel". The latter being used for woodwork only. Atm the German wiki does not reflect the English version for "Beitel". And I have even thought about the idea for having a joint article and realized a that for the German language that would not be possible. Both idioms are just used even to differ the specific usage. Any ideas? Oldnag85 (talk) 19:55, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- de:Meißel is correct for Chisel. Wood chisel would link to de:Beitel, if we develop an article on those specifically. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:19, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
- Sounds like a very constructive idea. Let us just wait if other ideas show up. If not I believe we should go that way. Oldnag85 (talk) 21:37, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Chisel history
[edit]In the History section, it'd be really helpful to see when different kinds of chisels become 'common in the archeological record.' Otherwise, the section has little value.Twang (talk) 23:48, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
I added history about the material changes and how chisels were used throughout the stone, bronze and iron ages. I felt this was necessary because there was very little history before. I believe my additions add valuable knowledge about the material changes through time. User:AdamSwcu
