Career, & listing 1994 season
[edit]chipper has spent his whole career in atlanta. there is no need to change it from 1993,1995-present. an injury that sidelined him for a season (which happened to be a strike season) does not disqualify him from being a brave during that time. he was still part of the Atlanta organization, just like mike hampton has been a brave during his time on the DL. by this logic, the braves streak of 14 titles would only be 11, since the 1994 season was never completed. Enjoisktboarding2 (talk) 19:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right. This practice is ridiculous.►Chris NelsonHolla! 19:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
whew, i thought i was the only one that thought it looked ridiculous.. thanks for the support lol.. Enjoisktboarding2 (talk) 19:46, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. It's ridiculous that we don't consider a guy on the team just because he's on the DL. You think if you asked Chipper when he played for the Braves, he'd say, "Well 1993 and since 1995"?►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
- Editors from the baseball or other Wiki Project seem to be overriding the consensus reached here on listing the '94 season. -Fnlayson (talk) 19:55, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- The players only get listed as to the year's they actually played. That is common practice on all baseball player articles and most other sports articles as well.. It doesn't mean he wasnt with the Braves, as his injury is spelled out in the text, but is intended to describe when he actually played. Spanneraol (talk) 20:23, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the explanation. About all I've received before is something like 'we only list years played', without saying who 'we' is. -Fnlayson (talk) 20:35, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Retirement
[edit]He did not officially retire yet.74.77.50.142 (talk) 02:01, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
- He announced on March 22 that he would retire at the end of the 2012 season. The season is over (at least for Atlanta) and he hasn't stated otherwise, so we assume his retirement. Shark96z (talk · contribs) 20:56, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Children
[edit]Chipper Jones' Hall of Fame speech mentions that his current wife is expecting his seventh son. The article currently mentions five sons. Seems one is missing. 173.160.130.14 (talk) 23:36, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- The "missing" one he mentioned appears to be his current wife's son from, apparently from a previous relationship. - BilCat (talk) 17:49, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
Hall of Fame election
[edit]Should it mention that he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame with 97.16% of the ballots, which ranks 13th on the all-time list?

Coaching World Series
[edit]There seems to be an edit war going on as to whether or not Jones gets the career highlight of "2021 WS Champion" in his infobox for being a coach. Looking through the wikis for the other coaches it is about a 50/50 split for those who have the highlight and those who do not. Can someone more knowledgable than me explain the rules on this and perhaps semi-protect the page to stop the back-and-forthness. Thanks Camelboiis (talk) 06:30, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Camelboiis: Anything come out of this? Seems self-evident that it should be included.Yousef Raz (talk) 05:02, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- He's not a full-time coach, but a part-time consultant. He more than likely received/will receive a ring, but that's not the same as having been a part of the WS coaching staff, which he wasn't. BilCat (talk) 05:44, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- @BilCat:He is included in the Template:2021 Atlanta Braves. If his role is significant enough to be included on the template than why not in the infobox?Yousef Raz (talk) 23:44, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
- I don't edit the navbox, so I don't know if there are any inclusion requirements or not. I'm simply explaining why the WS was removed from the infobox. To my knowledge, Jones was at some of the Atlanta games in the stands, but he wasn't suited up as a coach sitting in the dugout. BilCat (talk) 01:01, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Jargon
[edit]This article (like many others on Wikipedia) contains a lot of terms that are not common English. While they may mean something to baseball fans or American sports fans, they are mysteries to, say, Australians who are not already familiar with the topic. These should be explained, in truly standard English. Piledhigheranddeeper (talk) 14:02, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- Many of these baseball terms are explained by their wikilinks. Do you have any specific examples? – Muboshgu (talk) 14:58, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hopefully this helps. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:12, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
