Copy and paste move

[edit]

This page was moved to Chicago Loop (disambiguation), replaced with a page about plumbing, and then the original article was copied and pasted back to Chicago Loop. The problem with this method is that it separates the article from the history. In future, if a situation like this occurs, please bring it to the attention of an administrator. I have now merged the history back where it belongs, and the history of this article should be complete. If there's any missing history elsewhere please let me know. Central Buisiness District

[edit]

The way the article defines central business district it includes Grant Park, which I do not think is correct. Can this be sourced?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 06:37, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

South Loop

[edit]

Whoever wrote this section apparently thinks that the South Loop is a term for the southern part of The Loop, even though it is actually an entirely different community area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.206.232.172 (talk) 03:30, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably due to the ambiguous nature of "The Loop"- the lead identifies it as possibly extending as far south as Roosevelt. Personally, because I live south of Congress, but north of Roosevelt, I consider myself to live in the South Loop, but not the Loop. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.80.44.231 (talk) 17:33, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, the South Loop and West Loop need separate pages. It's misleading to include them here when they are their own neighborhoods and not part of the Loop proper.152.228.182.161 (talk)

Flea market?

[edit]

What on earth is "Weather permitting, large scale flea-marketing takes place here" talking about? Unless it's talking about the Maxwell Street Market, which isn't exactly a South Loop thing, I am drawing a blank. --sldownard (talk) 18:14, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Willis Tower is the SECOND tallest building in the western hemisphere?

[edit]

Then whats the first? If its not the uncompleted 1 WTC then I'm drawing a blank. 76.28.141.147 (talk) 03:35, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just came here wondering about the same. The word "second" was edited in without explanation, then removed, then re-edited in without explanation again in early 2011. I've looked through the lists as well, and in no list there is a taller building in the western hemisphere than the Willis Tower. I think it's safe to edit it out again unless someone provides an explanation. -- megA (talk) 19:03, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think people are talking about the CN Tower in Toronto, which is the tallest structure in the hemisphere, but is not a building. Speciate (talk) 18:57, 5 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually they're probably talking about the new WTC building in NYC, which, depending on how you measure (i.e. roof height, architectural height, pinnacle height, etc.) is either the tallest or second-tallest.152.228.182.161 (talk)
Read somewhere that the "official" body that "decides" such things is scheduled to meet on it in October. Alanscottwalker (talk) 21:33, 19 September 2013 (UTC) or November. [1] Alanscottwalker (talk) 21:38, 19 September 2013 (UTC) But yes the March dispute was about the CN Tower. Alanscottwalker (talk) 23:32, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move: Move to The Loop

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Chicago LoopThe Loop – This article is about a community area called "The Loop", which is also a major and historical business district. It is the primary topic for The Loop, as reflected by the far greater traffic this recieves than any similarly-named page. So this move is logical both to reflect the topic and follow WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Fitnr (talk) 01:58, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The definition of "The Loop" is wrong.

[edit]

"The Loop" is a smaller area of downtown, which is bounded by El tracks.

The definition given is suppose to be for downtown/CBD, but is also wrong, in that the area given is too small.

Why has this not been brought up before? Is there no one from Chicago who has read this & cares to comment?

It is true that many many people use "The Loop" to mean downtown, but they are wrong.

There is an article about Chicago neighborhoods https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_areas_in_Chicago#Central that has the correct definition. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:9701:C328:F597:BBDE:257D:4186 (talk) 23:24, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
