[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Procedural close without prejudice against opening a new proposal. This was a technical request by a new editor that is impossible to implement as proposed. Will discuss with Sophierizan on editor's talk page. Station1 (talk) 03:35, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Charles P. Finch → Charles Finch – Branding and online reputation issues, page to be changed to original name of Charles Finch Sophierizan (talk) 12:47, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Sophierizan: This can't be done as a technical request because there's an article about a different person already using the title Charles Finch. The original title of Charles P. Finch was Charles Finch (producer). This either needs to be a multi-move request with a proposal to move the current Charles Finch article somewhere, or a request to move Charles P. Finch to some title other than Charles Finch. Station1 (talk) 15:54, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:31, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Sophierizan and Station1: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:32, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
- Comment: The provided rationale isn't clear at all. What is the proposer trying to say? And is there a COI issue here? Is this promotional editing? Wikipedia doesn't really try to help people with "branding and online reputation issues". —BarrelProof (talk) 21:25, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: move the page to Charles Finch (British businessman) at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 17:27, 7 August 2018 (UTC)
Charles P. Finch → Charles Finch (creative entrepreneur) – As Charles moves ahead in his career, he see it necessary to highlight his career path. The reasoning for the choice 'creative' is to highlight his industry expertise area, referring to film production etc, as recently updated in his bibliography. The choice 'entrepreneur' refers to his business development, diversifying into new brand investments. A purely factual update to add clarity to Charles Finch as he progresses in his industry. - Move to Charles Finch (entrepreneur) or Charles Finch (British businessman) His WP:COMMONNAME appears to be without the middle initial; e.g. "Charles Finch" "William Morris" gets about 3x as many GHits as "Charles P. Finch", and most of the sources in the article use "Charles Finch". But (creative entrepreneur) is overly WP:PRECISE as Wikipedia does not describe any other entrepreneurs named Charles Finch, hence the inclusion of the industry is unnecessary. (Wikipedia does describe another businessman Charles B. Finch, which is why we'd have to add nationality if we want to use "businessman" instead of "entrepreneur" as the disambiguator.) 59.149.124.29 (talk) 07:33, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. Can you move to Charles Finch (entrepreneur) please. Thank you Sophierizan (talk) 10:12, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- Can't be moved yet. Other people may disagree with me, or they may have better suggestions. You have to wait for more people to comment. After seven days an administrator will assess the consensus and decide whether or not to move it. 59.149.124.29 (talk) 10:18, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

- Weak oppose: The provided rationale seems promotional. "Charles P. Finch" was the headline of the recent article in I-M magazine, so I see no evidence that it is not appropriate as a common name used in reliable independent sources. The nominator has not provided a comprehensible non-promotional rationale. Wikipedia is not motivated by wanting to "highlight" aspects that might help its subjects "move ahead in their career" or "progress in their industry". —BarrelProof (talk) 13:45, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- The I-M Magazine link refers to Charles as Charles P. Finch because at the time the article was written that was how he was referred to. The change is not to support his career progress, but to add factual clarity towards his industry of work. There are more articles online referring to Charles as Charles Finch; If not more credible sources, such as IMB, Vogue, WWD just to name a few. This edit is not taking a promotional tone, it support the disambiguation towards his name. Sophierizan (talk) 16:17, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

- Move to Charles Finch (British businessman). That's what he is. We don't rename articles because the subject or their people want us to. We do, however, rename them if they don't commonly use a middle initial or name. "Entrepreneur" is not very POV and we don't usually use it as a disambiguator. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:33, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Requesting to move to Charles Finch (businessman). Due to the above reasoning. This new request is completely neutral, does not support his career progression. Merely identifies Charles and the Industry he is present in.

Can you also advice how I update his photo on Wiki? Thanks
- Note that the national disambiguator is necessary because of the existence of Charles B. Finch, who was an American businessman. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:01, 6 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you. For now please change to Charles Finch (British Businessman)92.19.210.141 (talk) 16:44, 7 August 2018 (UTC)

The opening description
[edit]Some single-purpose accounts and anonymous IP editors have repeatedly been changing the opening description in the article so that it includes what I consider unhelpful puffery. The change is always basically changing "a British businessman involved in ..." to "an international businessman with substantial interests in ...". These editors have never been mentioning this change in edit summaries to describe their action. Let's please discuss the question rather than just "edit war" over it. —BarrelProof (talk) 20:46, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
