On the topic "Meat as a Medicine" - Charak Samhita talks about thousands of food items on nutrition and diet, but this section specifically refer to meat with special emphasis on feeding under deception. The source referred to is a secondary source when primary authentic source is available. I propose deletion of this selective and derogatory presentation or inclusion of all nutrition and diet items referred in Charak Samhita. Current presentation is non-neutral and avoids available primary authentic source in favor of a secondary must-less unreliable source. --ajaysajay (talk) 04:40, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya reference needs to be considered with care

[edit]

As @Abecedare noted last year, Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya's writings were sometimes blinkered by his political ideology. See. The review of his books have been mixed, sometimes very critical. He is not the best source for Charaka Samhita and other ancient Indian medical texts, and he should not be the exclusive source for any section/topic in this article. We need to consider him, but together with or prefer additional, recent scholarly secondary and tertiary WP:RS such as Meulenbeld instead. Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 08:58, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have made changes in the lead

[edit]

I have changed this sentence:

The text is based on the Agnivesha Samhitā, an eighth century BCE encyclopedic medical compendium by Agniveśa.

to

The text is based on the Agnivesha Samhitā, an older encyclopedic medical compendium by Agniveśa.

Reason: The date of Agnivesa is dubious. One source cited here says Agnivesha lived in Taxila during Buddha. the page Agnivesha says it is 1500 BCE. So it better to just call it an "older" text. VIBHAATH GUDTROT (talk) 15:08, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
