[edit]I believe the artikle needs some research. 1. You state that Armas means (shield!)as far as I know it means "You Arm" http://freetranslation.com spanish-english The style described as being attached too the saddle is the kind used in the provences of Jujuy and de Salta Arentina. 2. Bat wing chaps have been used for a very long time in the south west, the reason being not just for simplisity and ventilation, but also as protection for snake bite! much as women of the south west wore long skirts. - Hi Ryttar, The article is actually extensively researched, as you might see from all the footnotes, though of course there is always room for more! Where sourced, the citations are accurate to the source. For Armas, the translation is what the source says it means--it's not impossible that Western Horseman had a bad translation, but it's usually a very reliable source on this sort of thing, and it IS what they said. (also, "arm" can refer to weaponry, not anatomy) If you have sourcing for other information, feel free to add references. However, chaps in general are not protection from snakebite, BOOTS are the primary protection from snakebite (snakes, as a rule, being on the ground, even when a large rattler strikes, do not easily reach a mounter rider, after all, and cowboys didn't walk if they could ride! ;-) ) And batwings, as opposed to the shotgun design, are open in the back, so I suppose a walking cowboy COULD, in theory be bitten in the back calf in batwings, which couldn't happen with shotguns... (grin) But at any rate, if you find research sources that can improve the article, feel welcome to let us know. Montanabw(talk) 02:35, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Bot report : Found duplicate references !
[edit]In the last revision I edited, I found duplicate named references, i.e. references sharing the same name, but not having the same content. Please check them, as I am not able to fix them automatically :)

Chaps for the working horses?
[edit]Horses would also be vulnerable to damage from the chaparral or mesquite. Was there ever any protection for them? 74.127.200.185 (talk) 12:02, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
