Requested move 1

Chaos (disambiguation)Chaos – The "article" currently at Chaos is not an article at all, but a confused disambiguation page. It provides the following and nothing more: a definition of the term; a summary of Chaos (cosmogony), and a summary of Chaos theory. One of our most fundamental precepts here is that our articles are on single concepts. This "article" is trying to be about the word, and about two different concepts, all at the same time. That's contrary to convention, common sense, and our readers' expectations. Powers T 02:29, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where did this article go?

[edit]

I see that, without a deletion discussion, this article has vanished. Even the history has gone, although clones of the article still exist on the web at e.g. http://chaos.co.tv/

I thought there was an official process for deleting Wikipedia articles, especially useful ones like this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.124.75.122 (talk) 09:04, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 2

ChaosChaos (disambiguation) – Since the original version of this article, over-ridden by the above move, is useful, and contains content not existing elsewhere, I suggest moving the current dab page back to Chaos (disambiguation) and move Chaos/old version back to here, pending either an AfD or a merge request to resolve the question of what to do with that content. 202.124.74.87 (talk) 12:45, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Circular Disambiguation

[edit]

This has a circular disambiguation with Disorder. Each page links to the other. I think it is due to the renaming of this article.--Bte99 (talk) 17:54, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This rename is a nightmare and should be fixed

[edit]

There are currently over 400 articles that link directly to this article directly because it used to be different. There are other articles that should be linking to the disambiguation page, but since this is not officially named (disambiguation) Wikipedia thinks those articles are linked inappropriately. At a minimum I recommend we name this article with the (disambiguation) extension. Next point the current article name to this new page with (disambiguation). Then the other articles can be modified to point directly to the correct article (I have been spending hours doing that already). Also articles with the intent to point directly to the (disambiguation) page can be properly configured without Wikipedia getting upset about it. § Music Sorter § (talk) 08:53, 26 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Green tickY I now better understand the issue and no longer believe there is anything to fix.§ Music Sorter § (talk) 15:37, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 3

ChaosChaos (disambiguation) – Today the page Chaos (disambiguation) is a redirect to Chaos. There are hundreds of user talk pages and other articles that originally linked to the article Chaos/old version. This is not a proposal to make that page active again, but after the move was made of that content to the sub page and the disambiguation page was put in its place, many people still have a direct link to the disambiguation page. I have been updating the articles and selecting the correct topic (at least three are the most popular), but there are still a number of links that intend to reach the disambiguation page. Maybe I am not correctly understanding the purpose of DAB, but the articles that try to point directly to the disambiguated page on purpose are called out as incorrectly linking to the current article unless they link to Chaos (disambiguation). However there are a number of articles that are themselves disambiguation pages and they cannot link through two disambiguation pages.

This proposed move would also set up a redirect from Chaos to Chaos (disambiguation) to still provide a link, but it will force the original link to determine which of the three common articles on Chaos they really want. If there is another method to clear this up with the problematic DAB on Chaos I would be happy to listen and withdraw my recommendation. § Music Sorter § (talk) 04:34, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. I fully understand where you're coming from Music Sorter, but this won't solve the problem. The way to solve this problem is for someone (or hopefully a group of people) to go through and correct the links. As an example, Faculty recently became a dab page. This made over 600 links that were previously fine become incorrect. The only way to solve the problem is to fix the links. Whether this article is at Chaos or Chaos (disambiguation), the links will still be incorrect and they will still need to be rectified. If you are interested, Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation is always in need of more members and there are useful tools (listed on the project page) which can make disambiguating faster and easier. Jenks24 (talk) 05:42, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In fact I have been working from the DAB project page as recommended above. That is how I became involved with this issue. I know the individual links have to be renamed to the specific articles as I have been editing. I had assumed that if a disambiguation page was named with "(disambiguation)" that the double redirect problem would not be an issue. Maybe I am missing something. Based on what you are saying a page will not be viewed differently by the Wikipedia server whether it includes (disambiguation) in the title or not. I have seen a few cases where this does make a difference, but I suppose that will not help us here.§ Music Sorter § (talk) 15:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Thanks in large part to your own efforts, Music Sorter, all the incoming links to Chaos have now been resolved. Moving the article would not have fixed the problem anyway, and it would have been contrary to the article title guidelines, as discussed at WP:MDP. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 14:09, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Based on the information of the above two users I think I better understand the issue. I am happy to remove my move request, but I am not sure the policy for doing so. Maybe someone else can confirm they also oppose and do it for me based on my opposing my own move request.§ Music Sorter § (talk) 15:35, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Broad-concept article

A pre-existing broad-concept article is at Talk:Chaos/old version. -- 202.124.73.35 (talk) 02:45, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
