Talk:Cerveteri

Information is divided between the two in an irrational manner. Medieval and modern Cerveteri would be separate from Etruscan/Roman Caere, save that the UNESCO site is always Cerveteri.
Solution: Caere should be a redirect to Cerveteri, with all information represented at Cerveteri.

Article assessment
[edit]Hello Wetman. I don't really have time for this so here are a few suggestions. I couldn't resist. This article was kluged up from 1911. However, it does not come up to 1911 standards. So what is it doing here? Taking up space I suppose, but it is misleading. This is a non-article. The public should be cautioned, most of this article is misinformation. However, you will find plenty of good information on the Internet under either Caere or Cerveteri. This article does give us a set of coordinates and a few pics, but they can be found elsewhere in a single search.
So, if you were inclined, how could you make this into an actual article? First, note it has no refs. Most of the info is confused. The etymology of Banditaccia is absurd. We have a commercial for the tombs in the first sentence. The best tombs anywhere, hey? Sure. Refs on this are very easy to find on the Internet.
FYI the city was founded by the Etruscans (Cisra). Then it became Roman, same city, same spot (Caere). Then it declined into a small village still located within the ruined walls. This is the "Old Caere" phase. In the 20th century it was built up as a tourist attraction. The modern community is still in the walls and sprawls down the side. It only takes up about half the ancient urban area. The tombs are a big tourist attraction. That's what they have, tombs.
Some WP articles do split the ancient from the modern. Here, outside of the box, nothing is said about the modern. In the box there are no refs so the data is suspect. Of course the tombs are a modern attraction. They are also an ancient feature. A full article on Caere would be a moderate-size article. I would recommend putting it all in one article. The organization would be straight-forward: modern (you would have to do more geographical work), Etruscan, Roman, medieval. The material is already out there, all you need is someone with enthusiasm and a moratorium of the usual administrator hate attacks on such people.
For my assessment this article gets an F on content and format. It does not belong here; it represents misinformation. So, either fix it or delete it as misinformation. You have informed the public that you are an "encyclopedia." Do you feel any sense of responsibility about that, or are you just interested in collecting donor money? We've seen a lot of James Wales here, how about seeing more of Caere?66.30.95.118 (talk) 08:03, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
