Lack of mention about National War Memorial Sentry Duties

[edit]

The sentry duties at Rideau Hall are very similar to those at the NWM. Sentries are rotated every hour on the hour between 9 and 5. The relief sentries are accompanied by a bagpiper. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.246.108.2 (talk) 01:59, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Does any have a reference about why it is specifically an UNARMED sentry guarding the Unknown Soldier? I have heard this is of ceremonial importance but do not have a reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.196.131.192 (talk) 23:17, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notable persons

[edit]

Just letting you guys know that I trimmed a part concerning "notable musicians". Personally, I feel like the following people aren't really worth mentioning as they are pretty much unknown to members of the general public. Notable members of the band include the following musicians:

Captain Christian Richer: 13th director of music of La Musique du Royal 22e Régiment and former deputy commanding officer of the Canadian Forces Central Band. Current Commanding Officer of the Ceremonial Guard Band Lieutenant (N) Catherine Norris: Served as a flute and piccolo player from 1999-2005. Paul James Bannerman: Belgian Canadian drummer. Kris Covlin: A professional saxophonist and the current director of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Band. Eeanxi (talk) 18:19, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Move?

[edit]

I think this page should be moved to Ceremonial Guard (Canada) and have the original title redirect to Guard of honour. Dawkin Verbier (talk) 17:42, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ceremonial GuardCeremonial Guard (Canada) – I came across this page when searching for "ceremonial guard" on Google; the Wikipedia card directs users to the Canadian Ceremonial Guard page. It's also the case that when one searches "ceremonial guard" on Wikipedia, it goes to the page. "Ceremonial Guard", in general usage, does not refer to the Ceremonial Guard of Canada, but describes a general class of military groups known as a Guard of honour. I propose that the current page at Ceremonial Guard be moved to Ceremonial Guard (Canada), and either for a redirect be made from Ceremonial Guard to Guard of honour or Ceremonial Guard to be a disambiguation page for the various Ceremonial Guard units in the world.

Countries such as Kosovo also have units known as the Ceremonial Guard. WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME states: "[W]here a unit's name can reasonably be expected to be used by multiple armed forces... units should generally be preemptively disambiguated." So to be fair to Kosovo, and other the units of other countries whose honour guards are only called "Ceremonial Guard", Ceremonial Guard (in caps) should be a disambiguation page.
