Requested move 1 January 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: not moved. per RFC referenced by Amakuru which established that WP:NCPLACE does not apply to structures such as stadiums. I was unable to find a documented guideline as suggested by Crouch, Swale or Necrothesp suggesting that UK structures are an exception to this. Either way, consistency supports Oppose as the majority of English rugby stadiums requiring disambiguation are currently disambiguated parenthetically. Central Park (Wigan) → Central Park, Wigan – Per WP:NCDAB, comma-separated disambiguation is generally preferred over parentheses for place names. Also consistent with the naming style of other grounds (e.g. Station Road, Swinton, Craven Park, Hull) J Mo 101 (talk) 13:07, 1 January 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Oppose. The RFC at Wikipedia_talk:Article_titles/Archive_59#RfC_Naming_convention_for_sports_stadia concluded that we should use parenthetical disambiguation for sports stadia. To be clear, this is not a place name it is a stadium, and as such is not treated the same as place names. — Amakuru (talk) 13:47, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Support yes the convention at the RFC we generally to use brackets places in England usually use commas as noted in the move reason. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:53, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- That was not the outcome of the RFC. The decision, albeit tight, was to use parentheses. This fits with the general sitewide conventions anyway. Currently the majority of entries at Category:Rugby league stadiums in England and Category:Defunct rugby league venues in England are in line with that RFC result, using parenthese. A few are not, such as those mentioned in the nom above, but those should be fixed to be brought in line with the consensus. — Amakuru (talk) 18:30, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Amakuru. No such user (talk) 14:32, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom. For UK articles, we use comma disambiguation for structures. No reason sports stadia should be an exception here. Consistency should be within a country, not a category of buildings/structures determined by some sort of local consensus. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:04, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. I'm not sure what I think of this on the merits, but the RfC Amakuru cited seems fairly clear (and is exactly the opposite of local consensus). Extraordinary Writ (talk) 04:28, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
