A fact from Cecil E. Harris appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 24 February 2017 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Cecil E. Harris, the U.S. Navy's second most successful World War II flying ace, was a school teacher from landlocked South Dakota?
A number of newspapers between late 1944 and early 1945 contain mentions of Harris' actions with VF-18. At this point in the war McCampbell had ended his term of service, making Harris the Navy's highest scoring active ace. Mentions of Harris' multiple quadruple kills and his ace status appear in local papers all over the country, from his native South Dakota[1] to Oregon,[2] Virginia,[3] Wyoming,[4] Alabama[5] and elsewhere. I have yet to find an effective way to work these into the body of the article, but I figure they add some weight in the debate over notability. Finktron (talk) 23:53, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sources differ on the award of Air Medal. Military Times's "Hall of Valor" does not list the award at all. Other sources, such as local news remembrances and Congressional Record entries, mention the award but disagree on specifics (the award of the Air Medal versus the award of the Air Medal with two Gold Stars).
