I don't like these arbitrary "Lists of things in Cebu City" that we have scattered all over the article. Lists of hotels, malls, department stores, consulates, colleges, universities... it's unencyclopedic. An encyclopedia article is more than just a bunch of lists of things that exist. I'm going to remove most of these lists and try to convert them to prose. Coffee 02:38, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Barangays of Cebu City.
I am Bob Cabarrubias, incumbent city councilor of cebu city, a Former Barangay Captain of Basak-Pardo for 18 years. President of CVISNET and VP For the Barangay.Net Alliance.
- Deleted the Guadalupe at the column of North District since it belongs to the South District. Port Area is also deleted on the same column since the barangay does not exist. ON the column Brgy. South District, Banawa is also deleted since it does not exist in the south district. However, Banawa is already a barangay as approved by the house of representatives recently this year. One barangay of the south is not written on the column that is Buhisan
- I made a link of the brgys since they have thier respective website like Basak-Pardo, Buhisan, Tisa, Banilad, Hipodromo, and Capitol site. I believe that the viewers of this wikepedia are deserve for the detailed information of the barangay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bobcab (talk • contribs) 14:55, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
History
I am shocked at what I have read, about Lapu-Lapu being a Muslim, in fact most Muslims would love to have him on their side. I would have agreed to this but the facts are facts, get it straight first if you can read here [1]. If Lapu-Lapu were a Muslim then the invaders would have placed a stone as the marker for the spot when Magellan burned down the village as a symbol for the hardness of their hears, to borrow from that page "...a pillar of stone would have been raised to mark the hardness of their hearts..."
However Lapu-Lapu could have been a Manobo, an animist but not a Muslim, even the Manobos claim that he was one of their own, so the fact that he Lapu-Lapu was a Muslim is still a question.
I am challenging this article's reference to Lapu-Lapu as a Muslim, and I will be making changes to it in a few days, if I do not hear of an answer from this challenge.
- After reading a few of the discussion here it is already evident that his religion is still in question, and has only turned into a religious propaganda, thus I have removed the reference to Datu Lapu-lapu as a Muslim king

<Cityname> <City>
There is a discussion regarding the removal of the word "city" from the article titles of Philippine cities. For city names which are not unique, disambiguation alternatives are also being presented. Formal request for page move may follow after a reasonable time of discussion. If you wish to participate, please post your comments here. --JinJian (talk) 05:12, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Oldest city?
I think not, oldest City established by the Spaniards, yes.. Maynilad Confederancy was already a native fortified (walled) group of "Barangays" (modern day districts) that can be called a City as a whole. Employing advanced metalworking (because of trade with China and India), cannon-making (Lantaka) and ship-building (Balangay Caracoas). There are also city-states with heavy Chinese influence such as Lubao, Betis (Pampanga) and Mandaragupan (Indianized Dagupan). There are also from Indianized kingdoms of Agusan, Islamic City of Jolo, Jambangan (Zamboanga). --112.200.213.84 (talk) 08:38, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Absolutely right on, but in the absence of Historical records before the Spaniards came and raped the land, you can only agree to the standards that was imposed by the Spaniards on what constitutes a city and what is not. Junji (talk) 02:09, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
But did they really declared Cebu as a city? Or was it just a settlement. A town? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magsungai (talk • contribs) 17:32, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Proper English?
What is "Cebu also holds the second largest international flights in the Philippines" supposed to mean? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.200.65.118 (talk) 14:00, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
What does the title "Queen City of the South" mean? Who gives this title? It probably seems better to say that the title was assumed by it inhabitants, because of the city's economic boom. However, is economic status alone enough to assume such a title? Or, is the title rather bestowed by a competent higher authority?
To which jurisdiction does the word "South" refer to? If it refers to a jurisdiction, then the competent authority of jurisdiction should be the one to confer such title.--TLS MMM (talk) 09:12, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Avoiding capitalization of common nouns, per WP:JOBTITLES
Unbuttered Parsnip (talk · contribs) restored unnecessary upper case to job titles, such as "governed by a Mayor" after I corrected the capitalization. Before capitalizing what appear to be common nouns, a good case needs to be presented. Chris the speller yack 22:24, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
- Capitalization by Chris the speller was correct: "positions are common nouns and therefore should be in lower case". I have restored your edit. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 02:36, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Revert edits of July 18
In order to explain clearly which can't be done in the edit summary, I reverted the edits by User:SafeFlightTrackerPH made on July 18 for the following reasons:
- Other_name is not "Queen City of the South". That is a nickname, which is already mentioned.
- "Regional center" is not a settlement type, see Cities of the Philippines#Legal classification.
- No need to say again that this is a HUC in total_type, superfluous and clutter.
- Removed area_urban_km2 = 513.44 – unsourced.
- Removed population estimate, which is nothing more than a simple extrapolation, taken from a non-authoritative source. Only the official census number is considered authoritative.
- Removed population_urban = 2184685 – unsourced.
- Removed population_rural = 664528 – unsourced.
- Removed statement that Cebu is the most populous city in the Philippines not having a population of 1000000. This is not a remarkable milestone, but utterly pointless and moreover, obvious by itself.
If there is disagreement on this, discuss here first before reinstating this info. Thanks. -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 14:36, 18 July 2019 (UTC)

Oldest city in the Philippines
Cebu City is the oldest City in the Philippines.
The claim of Cebu as the ‘oldest’ city is based on its founding as a colonial settlement in 1565, despite the fact that a precolonial community was already in place upon Magellan’s arrival in 1521. Unfortunately there is little recorded precolonial history of urban settlements in the archipelago, making it is difficult to accurately measure their true age. All this, of course assumes that the basis of being the ‘oldest’ is the founding of human settlement and not by issuance of a charter or grant from an authority allowing the use of ‘city’ as an official title. If the latter is the case, Cebu would be the second oldest city, declared in 1594 after Manila in 1572. The elevation of Cebu to a city in 1594 is well-recorded in the Spanish Archives though largely unknown to local historians. Since this declaration was issued by Philip II, the king of Spain at that time, then it also invalidates dubious and poorly written claims over at the Iloilo City entry about 'Royal Cities in the Philippines’ which has never been corrected despite the lack of credible sources.
