naming

The result of the move request was: moot. The two most relevant articles were merged while the discussion was underway. So even if the rename proposal still has any relevance, most of comments here relate to a situation which no longer applies. If anyone feels that a renaming of the merged article would be appropriate, feel free to make a fresh nomination. -- BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:53, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
Cebu → Cebu (province) – better 76.120.175.135 (talk) 23:20, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Since the move nomination is a little cryptic, I'll add that, in addition to the province, there is Cebu (island) that is perhaps more important than the province and Cebu City. These and other uses are listed at Cebu (disambiguation). In short, the province does not meet the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC threshold. — AjaxSmack 23:59, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose since the island and the province are nearly coterminous. Moreover, page view statistics clearly review that the province is the primary topic. Cebu is viewed between 600 to 800 times per day, but Cebu (island) about 10x less! -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 00:29, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- "...The island and the province are nearly coterminous." This is an argument for merging the articles (which I'm fine with if others are), not for the province being the primary topic. "Page view statistics clearly review that the province is the primary topic." Not necessarily. Users typing "Cebu" end up getting the province page and, since the island page is not even mentioned in the hatnote, they may end up reading about the island in the province page. (I assumed this article was about the island until commencing reading since much of the content [history, &c.] is about the island and not the province.) Cebu City, which is mentioned in the hatnote get almost as many views as the province. Last 30 days stats:
- Agree on the merge. Nothing in the island article hasn't been said already in the main article.--RioHondo (talk) 02:48, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, I do favor merge as well. As for primary use, your page view statistics prove my point. The difference in statistics is too great to attribute to a lack of hatnote (Cebu Island is mentioned right in the first sentence). -- P 1 9 9 ✉ 23:32, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose the island province is the clear primary topic. I would support merging the island and province since the island is merely a mirror of the province article with all contents copied straight from the Cebu article. No point in having two articles for the island and its coterminous administrative unit. The city is largely referred to as Cebu City.--RioHondo (talk) 02:25, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support merging the island and the province, which will of course leave no reason to move/rename anything. The island is basically the geography of the province. - WPGA2345 - ☛ 03:59, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- Speedy close Done merging the island and province. --RioHondo (talk) 18:15, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
- It's been merged, which is great, but debate should continue. I think it's pretty clear that the province/island article, now merged, has primary topic. And I oppose the proposed move. But I also oppose a speedy close; let's give it the week. Red Slash 04:09, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
- Two topics with 20K - how can it be pretty clear that one is PRIMARY? Did you ever read WP:PT? Androoox (talk) 12:03, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- It's so obvious you and your sockpuppets are out to disrupt WP with your content forks and contravention of established conventions. I have reverted your move on List of islands of Cebu Province back to List of islands of Cebu seeing you have this habit of deciding on article titles without even getting a consensus first. This move is invalid to begin with as far as WP:MOSPHIL is concerned. Enjoy your 24-hour block.--RioHondo (talk) 04:23, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support move. Article fails WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Androoox (talk) 12:04, 12 February 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose -How can it not be the primary topic when it is the only place on earth that has this name. Also Ferdinand Magellan.--Theparties (talk) 19:00, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Apparently, all these RMs to the Provincename Province convention in violation of WP:MOSPHIL was started by this banned user from years ago. The said user created all these separate Island articles that merely duplicated the geography sections of their main articles just to insist on his name changes for all Philippine provinces. The articles have been merged as agreed in WT:TAMBAY and following the WP practice on island-admin units like Bali, Hokkaido, Prince Edward Island, Phuket, Isle of Man, etc. but this user just ignored it and continued with his disruptive moves and edits. See page histories of these redundant forks Cebu (island), Catanduanes (island), Basilan Island, Bohol Island, and Batanes Islands. Looks like User:Tobias Conradi is back. Admins, keep an eye on this user please.--RioHondo (talk) 05:24, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
