Whoa

[edit]

Overwhelming response cleaning up this article. Thanks everyone! MFTU 22:41, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

The General Assembly of North Carolina ratified House Bill 149 "Caylee's Law" on 5/8/13. "This act goes into effect December 1, 2013 and applies to offenses committed on or after that date." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.59.214.20 (talk) 15:23, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of opposition of Caylee's Law and Neutral Point of View

[edit]

I have restored the opposition statement and link, in accordance with Wikipedia:NPOV which states: "An article should not give undue weight to any aspects of the subject but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight appropriate to its significance to the subject." Please do not remove them again without further discussion. --108.8.9.210 (talk) 13:50, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but you're citing a primary source. WP:NPOV requires that weight be determined according to secondary sources. IOW, are there any secondary sources (i.e. articles from the mainstream news media) about this? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 13:56, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here are a few links to articles discussing the negative aspects of the proposed law. These links are referenced on the petition page:

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2011/07/08/casey_anthony_caylees_law/index.html
Here are a few links I found on my own, which the originator of the petition doesn't have listed:
http://blogs.wsj.com/law/2011/07/06/proposed-caylees-law-generates-virtual-frenzy/
http://blogs.forbes.com/kevinunderhill/2011/07/07/number-of-americans-calling-for-unconstitutional-caylees-law-increasing-all-the-time/?partner=opinions_newsletter
I have no objection to adding additional references. This page is just getting started, so I added the opposition argument so that the page can show the entire picture, and remain neutral, in the hopes that others may help expand the page further.

OK, I'm not familiar with the first two web sites, but Salon.com is acceptable. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 15:09, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a problem with having a section about opposition to the law, but the one added is not about and does not mention opposition to the law, it is just there to promote a petition with 14 signatures that was just made. I have rewritten the section so it is not promoting that petition site. Also, the sources you mentioned do not mention or talk about your petition.. nice try --174.252.2.104 (talk) 19:14, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am the original poster on my mobile device. I added the petition because it seemed like a good starting point for obtaining additional information about opposition to the law, not to promote the petition. Excuse me for trying to help others find resources to add content to the page. If you couldnt see from my previous post, its not my petition. With that said, to maintain a neutral point of view, I am removing the link to the "for" petition. We shouldn't have one petition and not the other. --208.54.35.183 (talk) 18:33, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
