[edit]"St Marie’s was completed in 1850 and consecrated on September 11th. ... it was not until 1889 that the church was free from debt." Something's wrong here - Catholic churches are not consecrated until they are free of debt. Presumably St. Marie's was opened in 1850 and consecrated in 1889? Perhaps you might want to check your sources? C0pernicus 19:15, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- That text was added by Dcbellamy (talk · contribs), and I have just discovered that it is actually a copyvio from the St Marie's website. So if it is incorrect then the church itself has it incorrect. However, as copyvio text it needs either removed or substantially edited. JeremyA 00:51, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
- By the look of it the St Marie's web site has the same author, so we're no nearer a valid source of information. C0pernicus 14:25, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
You are right, it is a direct copy. I put it in and am the webmaster. There is no copyright, because the authors donated their time and effort for free and for the Cathedral. The authors are Eileen Marr and Deacon Bill Burleigh.
Panic not, folks! David Bellamy 08:05, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- But the information is still wrong. The Catholic Directory (I looked at the 2002 edition) gives 1889 as the date of consecration. Want to double check? C0pernicus 12:24, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I have been back to the authors and Deacon Bill says that you are right. Churches cannot be consecrated until they are free of debt. Thus the Church was opened, not consecrated, on the 11th of September. I have removed the disputed tab as I hope I have answered your query. David Bellamy 14:56, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
why is it necessary to have a link to Sheffield Anglican Cathedral here? Roydosan 19:43, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
