I will be back
[edit]I will return to expand this and add detailed images. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:14, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- For traditional European milkmaid's yoke, see File:Milkmaid's_yoke, Hereford_Museum_and_Art_Gallery - DSCF1940.JPG... AnonMoos (talk) 14:22, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Wonderful! Thank you so much. I will include it in the article. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:11, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Shoulder poles of the Chinese type are used a lot in Vietnam. I don't have a source, but there may be images on Google. Get back to me if I can help in researching it. Thanks for your work. Itsmejudith (talk) 22:42, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- I will dig. Many thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:54, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

This could be a section within, but I don't think so. I will expand this. Please hold off merge consideration until then. I think they are so distinct that little more than the name is in common, and both in one article would seem strange. Please give it some time. Cheers. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:08, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- That article is completely about draught animals, and there seems little point to tryting to force human and non-human uses into a single article. Maybe rename this article to "shoulder pole or human yoke"? -- AnonMoos (talk) 02:16, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. Let's keep it separate. I like human yoke too. Commons likes Carrying yoke, which is not bad at all. What do you think? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:54, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
Move to Carrying yoke
[edit]More and more it looks like this is the right name. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 04:21, 30 November 2011 (UTC)
- Fram suggests that Carrying pole may be best. I don't know what to think now. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:51, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
- The choices once again
- Carrying pole
- Carrying yoke
- Shoulder pole
- Shoulder yoke
- Stick
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:51, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm going to move it to carrying pole soon, I think. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:35, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Another image

Most of the content on this page is about yokes. 5 of the 7 images in the gallery are yokes. "Carrying pole" is not even a widely-known English term. -- 13:28, 5 September 2014 Cornellier
- As I said on "02:16, 30 November 2011" above, that article is exclusively about animal uses, while this article is about human uses. Not sure any clarity would be gained by merging the two, so a rename would be preferable. AnonMoos (talk) 02:02, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi AnonMoos, thanks for the feedback. My apologies, I should've read the existing Talk page and commented on that before proposing the merge. I'll have to research a bit more but I'm surprised at that the yoke page only discusses animal uses. Somewhat anecdotal, but I used a yoke myself just yesterday to portage a canoe. I've also used a yoke to carry two buckets of water. --Cornellier (talk) 03:10, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- In practical terms, what is discussed on the "Yoke" article is predominantly used to harness two animals to pull, while what is discussed on this article is predominantly used to help one human to carry -- so it makes sense to have two separate articles. AnonMoos (talk) 11:25, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
- There seems to be little to be gained by merging as they are quite distinct topics. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 14:09, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
