[edit]I came to this page because it had a request for citations. I didn't start out to rewrite it, just to add internal Wiki links and references.
There were four sections in the old article. Financial economics was a stub. Tax was wrong, at least for the United States and any other jurisdiction I know of. The managerial accounting section was an opinion piece, and not directly relevant to the topic. The financial accounting might have been saved if I relabeled in governmental accounting, but at that point I decided to start from scratch. I offer apologies to all the people who worked on this, but I don't think the result was worth saving.
I don't consider this finished, I've just laid out the basic definitions and some important distinctions. There is a lot more to be said about capital assets, but now you can start from a firm base, with authoritative references.

Engineering applications
