Currently both Canavalia ensiformis and Canavalia pubescens articles give "Jack bean" as an English name for the plant Does somebody know a definite answer to which species really is Jack bean? --Chino 05:21, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Could be both. Common names are often given to an entire genus or several species within a genus. The ultimate goal would be to describe what common names each species is called and who calls them that (American English speakers, British English speakers, etc.). --Rkitko (talk) 15:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- I changed it to "Common" because every species in the genus seems to have an English name with "jack bean" or somesuch. C. pubescens is a Hawaiian species for which a dedicated name ist used, albeit rarely (IONO whether it has a native one). The source for calling C. pubescens "jack bean" without specifiers is the IUCN redlist via polbot, which is absolutely not a reliable source ;-) Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 01:35, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
