I added a citation tag to this page, because it cites few sources, and some of the information is not general knowledge. I also added a specific tag to the Springsteen fact, because I have not been able to find any proof that Reagan ever actually used the song as his campaign song.Creamypirate (talk) 04:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have the skills to make these changes without breaking the table, so am recommending them here:
David Cobb, 2004, Green Party presidential nominee - Fortunate Son - John Fogerty
Jill Stein, 2012, Green Party presidential nominee - Yell Fire! - Michael Franti and Spearhead
And just an editorial note . . . John Kerry was ---actually--- born "silver spoon in hand" . . . so it's a bit bizarre that his campaign coopted Cobb's song, picked earlier that year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.173.167.156 (talk) 22:47, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
An entire WP page with a list of artists that have objected to their songs being used by candidates could be linked to from here. (Not sure what to title it.)
This Land is Your Land probabaly would have raised an objection from Woodie Guthrie if he was still alive. (The full lyrics are at odds with George H. W. Bush and would be a definite no if Donald Trump used it since Guthrie wrote a song critical of Trump's father.)
