Caltavuturo (Zip Code 90022) is 104 km. distant from Agrigento, 80 km. from Caltanissetta, 177 km. from Catania, 88 km. from Enna, 240 km. from Messina, 79 km. from Palermo,which province it belongs to, 221 km. from Ragusa, 235 km. from Siracusa, 178 km. from Trapani.
The municipality has 4.868 inhabitants and its area is 9.722 hectares for a density of population of 50 inhabitants per square kilometre. The small town rises on mountainous area and is 630 mtres above sea-level.

In the agricultural field there are different productions such as corn's, olives' and forage's; the handicraft field is also industrious with its wrought iron and local typical needle-works.
The name of the small town means stronghold of vultures. In fact it derives from Arabic word calaat (stronghold) and from Sicilian vuturu (vulture). The town is the first fortified Arabic place and it rose on a tableland placed in the northern part of the present town. The territory was a State property but various noblemen got the permission to rule it till the XIV century.
From an artistic point of view it is interesting the remains of the Saracen Castle on the terrace called Terravecchia (old land), the Cathedral Church erected in 1582 and dedicated to SS. Pietro and Paolo, inside there are kept a painting representing the Adorazione dei Magi (Worship of Magi) by Flemish school and a statue of the Virgin and an organ luxuriously ornate.
