Rules and process
[edit]The article should explain whether a book may be a finalist every year during its four-year eligibility, or even win the Medal every year. I don't find either point mentioned at CYRM. The complete list of ballots may resolve both points. --P64 (talk) 17:05, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
2012 Medals
[edit]As I rewrote all (relying entirely on CYRM), I decided that 2012 Medalists should be named near the top of the article. That may dissolve the temptation to list winners in reverse chronological order (eg, National Book Award for Young People's Literature).
I have linked all the titles, authors, illustrators, and publishers naively; then checked all the bluelinks. As I bid adieu, there are eight bluelinks, all accurate. Some redlinks may be "false negatives"; I have explored none of them.
Will these Medals (announced this week, presented next fall and winter) stimulate new wikipedia articles about some of the winners? I suppose so. I agree with the previous editors who determined that the main list should not be full of redlinks, however. --P64 (talk) 17:05, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Illustrators
[edit]Both author and illustrator get Medals, two for one book as I understand CRYM ({home} Nomination and Voting). Relying on the official list of winners I added illustrators, in experimental format that displays their names on the next line for readability.
For two books where CRYM shows Candace Fleming one of two authors (winners 2006, 2005), I checked the Library of Congress Catalog and found that CRYM's second author is the illustrator. Probably all of the double authors are worth double-checking. --P64 (talk) 21:00, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- Some may be checked by reference to a cover image, which CRYM provides from 2004. ...
- Here are those LCC entries I have checked (and used all to revise the listing here).
- 2000: Johnson & Lewis, 1996 — 2005: Fleming & Karas, 2002 — 2006: Fleming & Dressen-McQueen, 2003

- Distinct illustrators of Primary Award-winning books have officially received full recognition (equal to writers, i presume that is) only from 1987.[1]
- I added one statement of that between 1986 and 1987 in the list of Winners. It might better be a footNote to each of the five pre-1987 Primary winners with a distinct illustrator.
