Expansion Topics

[edit]

These are some of topics needed for expansion:

  • Calcium signaling through ion channels
  • Calcium signaling through GPCRs
  • Phospholipase C pathway
  • others
  • calcium role in exocytosis
  • synaptogamin
  • Calcium as a signal for necrosis
  • Calciums role at the neuromuscular junction
  • Intracellular role of calcium in allosteric regulation
  • protein kinase A activation
  • troponin
  • calmodulin
  • Ca/calmodulin kinase II
  • calcineurin
  • CREB
  • role in Long term potentiation

They may not have to be full accounts; a brief explanation with a link to the main article may suffice. I may attempt an expansion in summer if it still needs doing then.

Perspective of an Ignorant Reader

[edit]

I came onto this page for a definition of "Calcium Signaling." Instead, the article begins by using the term "calcium signaling" to define another highly technical term, which is marginally worse than the proverbial "defining a word by using it in its definition." The article never gets around to actually defining "calcium signaling," at least to the extent I read. OK, to confess, I gave up at the beginning because the article did not begin with a definition of "calcium signaling," and when it immediately got very technical, I didn't peruse any further to see if the definition might be provided later. I felt forced to give up. Nei1 (talk) 13:25, 9 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Examples

[edit]

Perhaps more examples will demonstrate the importance of Ca2+ signalling. Gregory Aldrich (talk) 19:16, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting connections

[edit]

I thought it was really interesting how so many systems change function depending on the calcium concentration.Gd1220061 (talk) 02:57, 13 April 2023 (UTC) Gd1220061 (talk) 02:56, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
