Hi, I'm considering making some edits for a college course project. I've found a few academic peer-reviewed sources I thought would be beneficial to this page. I'm hoping to add a little more detail to the foliage section, add a section on flowers, plant use, and add a few more calathea cultivars to the list. Also planning to add a few more citations to specific areas in the text.

Here are the sources I've found: Johan Van Huylenbroeck et. al., Handbook of Plant Breeding, 2018, doi: https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-319-90698-0_13

Rout, G.R. Studies on the genetic relationship among 13 cultivars of Calathea (Marantaceae) using RAPD and ISSR markers, 2007, https://www.jstor.org/stable/42882561

Zhiguang, Qiu et. al., Ionic Skin w/Bioemetic Dielectric Layer Templated from Calathea Zebrine Leaf, DOI: 10.1002/adfm.201802343

Juliana Menegassi Leoni & Flavia Regina Capelotto Costa, Sustainable Use of Calathea Lutea in Handicrafts: A Case Study from the Amana Sustainable Development Reserve in the Brazilian Amazon,

Please let me know what you think. Thanks! Amhuggett (talk) 22:34, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are there citations/references for the native uses section? Amhuggett (talk) 16:16, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are Calathea native to Thailand? If so, this conflicts with the information in the Ecology section. Campfool 22:09, 19 August 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roysatx (talkcontribs)

I'd like to suggest an additional evaluation/removal of the Air So Pure and Maximum Yield resources. They are associated with businesses and I'm unsure if that's okay for Wikipedia. Amhuggett (talk) 21:11, 18 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Native use section contains non-natives

[edit]

If Calathea are not native to THAILAND, then why are Thai crafts included in the section "Native Uses"?!? Anyone who is a member of an Indigenous tribe in the southern areas of the western hemisphere where Calathea are found in nature would be considered a native. Furthermore, the way the paragraph is written reinforces the idea that people in villages use the leaves for craftwork and other purposes.

Since this is reallly confusing and poorly written, I suggest that the section be renamed to "Indigneous uses" and another section be created: "Other uses". The latter can include the Thai reference and other modern references, such as the use of tropical leaves in fashion design. 176.93.241.98 (talk) 04:22, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
