Fifth death

As per Press Trust of India (PTI) [1]  : A 69-year-old Italian tourist, who had recovered from COVID-19, dies of cardiac arrest in Jaipur private hospital.

Should we count his death due to COVID-19? Or wait for Mohfw confirmation when they update it? For now it have been added in article.

Tagging some of frequent editors as well @Mr.Mani Raj Paul: @Shanze1: @TheRichardPinto: - Mayankj429 (talk) 07:36, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, don't think we should add it yet. Shanze1 (talk) 08:07, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
@Shanze1: More on this reported by ANI [2] :- Senior official to ANI on death of an Italian national in Jaipur today: He had recovered (from #COVID19), had tested negative & was discharged by SMS hospital, Jaipur 4 days back. He was admitted again to a pvt hospital there, for his co-morbid condition, and died due to illness. - Mayankj429 (talk) 08:42, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

If MOHFW doesn't acknowledge it as the fifth death in its next update (last update was 20/03/2020 - 9 AM), we can remove it from here too. TheRichardPinto (talk) 09:44, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

@TheRichardPinto: @Shanze1: @Mr.Mani Raj Paul: Mohfw updated on 5 pm IST - 4 deaths in India. Removing 5th death from count. - Mayankj429 (talk) 11:44, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

The Hindu as tracking source

Do we really need The Hindu as source for infected cases number along with MoHFW in main table? I really don't consider any use of this as our government is not hiding any numbers and also it is updating frequently. We need to discuss this. Brown Chocolate (talk) 12:13, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

@Brown Chocolate: As per my observation, MOHFW updates at 9 am and 5 pm IST daily. If we are looking for live no. of cases at any time and willing to update The hindu reported cases then keep it otherwise 2 times a day update ( in morning and evening) by mohfw is also enough.so, The Hindu source can be removed as well as per my opinion. - Mayankj429 (talk) 12:32, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
@Mr.Mani Raj Paul: @Shanze1: @TheRichardPinto: any opinions? Brown Chocolate (talk) 13:02, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

@Brown Chocolate:@Shanze1: @TheRichardPinto:@Mayankj429: , The Hindu source should be remove., because we only prefer one source that is MOHFW (Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 13:06, 20 March 2020 (UTC))

Helpline Numbers

can you add helpline nbr given by government +91-11-23978046 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Royal711 (talkcontribs) 13:34, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Please share a reliable link of the source of this (ex MyGov or a ministry website) and also which ministry/department the number belongs to etc DTM (talk) 15:40, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
@DiplomatTesterMan: I gave this idea before, but was rejected. It is probably archived. The numbers are on MoHFW website. The titles on the website are The Helpline Number for corona-virus : +91-11-23978046 Toll Free No: 1075, The Helpline Numbers of States & Union Territories for corona-virus, The Helpline Email ID for corona-virus : ncov2019[at]gov[dot]in. The second one is a PDF document. [1]SaiP (talk) 16:37, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Mr.Mani Raj Paul, I am aware of this policy. When I asked for more details, the intention was not only to add the numbers themselves, but maybe provide news that the numbers are avaible, how many calls these numbers are getting, and what are the most frequent questions helped; how many people are are manning these helplines, in how many languages etc. DTM (talk) 06:15, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

I tried to find other sources but didn't got any (as of now). As per WP:Facebook we can use FB as a reliable source if it is from officials (like in this case). Currently we can use this sources until we could get more reliable source. Brown Chocolate (talk) 06:08, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Mr.Mani Raj Paul I was just checking out the policy/guideline myself. Just as a relevant notice I commented here with it. I am sure you know how best to apply it here. It should be noted that the blue tick for the embassies give the facebook pages a certain amount of credibility and it cannot be ignored as a normal social media account of any random individual.

  • India in Singapore (High Commission of India, Singapore) @IndiaInSingapore

Regarding March Section

As the Timeline of March cases is becoming long, so by tomorrow we will interchange section like this :-

March 1-10
March 11-20
March 21-31

I hope you all agree (Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 16:00, 20 March 2020 (UTC))

Hi, Titodutta , Yes Timeline of March cases is becoming long, so if we create a new Article like this 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 in India , I think we should wait till April. (Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 02:30, 21 March 2020 (UTC))

Deccan Herald as Live Tracking Souce

India is now entering a new Phase with a steep increment in New Cases. So, a faster update is essential. Our Official Health Ministry Updates are delayed by a day. I propose the Deccan Herald Coronavirus Live Updates Tracker to update about the latest count as soon as possible. It is reporting cases faster than other media sources, and can replace 'The Hindu' Tracker. Kindly have a look at it. Thank You.

  • Deccan Hearld has a live tracking, so has The Times of India, and so has The Hindu, and a bunch of other news portals. As COVID-19 is entering a new phase (if it is so, I have not read any confirmation yet), we need to be more careful. --Titodutta (talk) 17:42, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Short Summary

Mr.Mani Raj Paul, we all need to add a short summary to the new Timeline subsection created on the page. It shouldn't be left blank with just the link. DTM (talk) 12:25, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

DTM , what type of summary, can I now ?? (Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 12:31, 21 March 2020 (UTC))
Yes, you can, anyone can :)... for example see this 2019–20_coronavirus_pandemic#History, and how the main article Timeline of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is summarised. This is just one example. There are many. Any place where {{main|}} template is placed is an example. DTM (talk) 12:38, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
I want to take advice from @Shanze1:@TheRichardPinto:@SaiP:@Brown Chocolate:@Mayankj429:, Please read above paragraphs & What you people think? (Mr.Mani Raj Paul (talk) 13:18, 21 March 2020 (UTC))
@Mr.Mani Raj Paul: I think in summary one paragraph could be on first wave i.e. first three cases in Kerela and recoveries, than in next paragraph could be about 16 italian group, and various imported cases. We can also tell on which date and in how many days cases reach a total of 50, 100, 200, so on. Many more things can be summarized do suggest it. - Mayankj429 (talk) 13:57, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

For me it would be

  • First 3 cases from Kerla and their recovery.
  • Cases on 2nd March. (As it was first reported after long time)
  • 14 Italian citizen cases.
  • 3 year old and their parents cases. (Could be

excluded)

  • Major milestone (50,100,150,200).
  • All Deaths.
  • Kanika Kapoor Case.

Remember future is yet to come. We should keep summary bit short now. Brown Chocolate (talk) 14:31, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

1. First case in Kerala. 2. First case outside of Kerala. 3. No. of states affected right now. 4. Total cases milestone dates - 100, 500, 1000, and so on. 5. Total deaths milestone dates. 6. Most cases reported in a 24-hour period. 7. Top celebrity cases. TheRichardPinto (talk) 15:00, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Move the Table of daily cases by state

Proposal to move the this template from the main page. The table is very large as of now and will only grow in the coming days, this creates clutter and confusion on the page. It could instead be hyperlinked as a source under this template like here and here on the pages for the United States and Pakistan. — Shawnqual (talk) 08:56, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Everyone, please please take a little bit more effort with the citations, add a date, author if present, agency, any other relevant details etc. This may seem like a waste of time BUT IT IS NOT. REQUEST TO KEEP THE ORANGE GRAPH

SaiP,you have deleted my section during your previous update, while I have not contributed on this page much, It's not allowed to remove any user's section on the talk page unless clarified thereby violating WP:TPO. Please clarify before permanently removing my section.

The orange graph showing cumulative cases was simple and efficient, but has been shifted to the timeline page which I can understand. But the existing table for cases by state is too long and difficult to interpret at first look, and is only going to grow longer. Could we keep the orange graph on this page too?

Edit: It also looks like the entire timeline page was just cut and pasted hastily on the new page. We should have a brief timeline page present here, and possibly the orange graph too. Thundermage117 (talk) 13:52, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

Good to see March has a new subpage now. However the current March section does not look good. There were rumors that some Muslims who returned from Dubai refused to undergo coronavirus testing for religious reasons. The news was then amplified by bloggers and some some social media channels, but it was later debunked and confirmed to be false.[1]

Following line can be added in Misinformation section

Misinformation that the government is spreading "anti-corona" drug in the country during Janata curfew, a stay-at-home curfew enforced in India, went viral on social media.[1] Misinformation that clapping together during Janata curfew will kill the virus was debunked by the media.[2] One viral message says that the lifetime of coronavirus is only 12 hours and staying home for 14 hours during Janata curfew break the chain of transmission.[3] Another message claimed that observing Janata curfew will result in the reduction of coronavirus cases by 40%.[3]

I think this should be added somewhere in the article: On 23 March 2020, the Greater Chennai Corporation began disinfection across bus stands, bus shelters, market areas, benches, and other crowded areas of Chennai as an effort to contain the coronavirus. In the Koyambedu area, garbage was removed from a market. The civic body announced that disinfection will begin on 3,800 ATM machines.[1] Kabutops7 (talk) 21:46, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Disinfection of public places is being done across all major cities. Adding info only about Chennai would not be a great move. Agree or disagree? Brown Chocolate (talk) 01:43, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

I agree. - Mayankj429 (talk) 09:30, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

This definitely doesn't come under Discrimination. However, if there are more cases like this, we could add a new sub-section called Victim Blaming. TheRichardPinto (talk) 09:36, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Second image in infobox

What is the second image in the infobox? As per the caption, it is clearly wrong (see first image). Is it just wrongly captioned, or is the image itself wrong / outdated? --Jose Mathew (talk) 09:31, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

@Jose Mathew C: Second image shows deaths in a range in various states. If Caption is causing confusion i would change it to make it more clear. - Mayankj429 (talk) 09:43, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
@Mayankj429: Oh, so they have just copied the colour scheme from the first image. I was confused because no state has 9 deaths (so far). --Jose Mathew (talk) 09:55, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

  • I think we have reorganise this section. I see the tables being very clumsy. The table 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India by state and union territory goes off page. I had to scroll to the right to see it. What are you thoughts? SaiP (talk) 10:56, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Remove it Honestly, I hate that table. It's too huge. Whenever I open this article, first thing I saw is this table. Also it is not much important. It would be better if we remove it from here and add it to Timeline of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India. Also we could not maintain it for future dates. It would be damm big. Brown Chocolate (talk) 11:15, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
We can simply make the default state of the table collapsed if you want. Shanze1 (talk) 11:16, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Agree @Shanze1: This is much better idea. As i remember this table was added after a discussion. So, for some visitors this table may be useful. So keep it here but in default collapsible mode. - Mayankj429 (talk) 11:30, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I think moving it Timeline of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India would be neat and appropriate. SaiP (talk) 11:24, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
@Shanze1: Sure this can be done to make article look good. But still this pandemic will not gonna end within a week or two (imagine how big it would be). Also I don't think readers are interested to see this kind of details here on main page. I did suggest it to move it to Timeline of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India with default state as collapsed. Brown Chocolate (talk) 11:29, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I don't recommend moving this to timeline article. This needs to be here in the statistics section which is designated to have such data. Every other nation's page have them in the main page and some even have their stat section with even longer tables next to the lead section. I have put it on collapsed state now. Shanze1 (talk) 11:39, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Now I feel OK. I was just talking about the future look of this table. Also as per Shanze1 I checked other countries statistics section. I really loved the way how US did it. Thanks Brown Chocolate (talk) 12:03, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I did see it. It looks good. One small request, could you move the Orange Graph beside the table 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India by state and union territory so that there is no empty space. It looks neat then because both are of similar size. On a side note, the orange graph is already there on the time line article. SaiP (talk) 12:10, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
What about this, Shanze1? SaiP (talk) 12:57, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
The orange graph associated with the Timeline section. We need others' opinion before moving that out of there. But yeah, the empty space does bother me. There is another way though - we can make it align left at present location.@Mayankj429:@Mr.Mani Raj Paul:@Brown Chocolate:. Shanze1 (talk) 13:05, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
SaiP Shanze1 Orange graph is also used on Timeline of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic in India so it shouldn't be placed in the template in Stats section, and that graph was again added their as it shows how cases in country increased with time, which is apt for the Timeline section. Better would be to take the Stats section downwards which we are discussing. - Mayankj429 (talk) 14:46, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Could you collapse the second map as well Shanze1? Aim is to clear of the empty space which does not look neat. What are your thoughts folks? SaiP (talk) 12:17, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I think we cannot collapse the maps inside this infobox. Also, I think it is vital to keep it as it is for now. Shanze1 (talk) 12:33, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I don't see any issue. Shanze1 (talk) 13:38, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Shanze1 Could you please place graph 2 (new cases) under graph 1 (total count) so it would look better. Brown Chocolate (talk) 13:41, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Yes, it was that way before. Will do that. Shanze1 (talk) 13:49, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Contributors to PM-CARES fund

There are now dozens of companies that have contributed 100 crore to this fund. It would be silly to go on naming all of them on this article. I suggest we mention only those which have contributed 200 crore or more in order to avoid corporate spam on this article. M4DU7 (talk) 10:22, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Akshay Kumar denoted Rs 25 Crore, while other HDFC back (150 crore) , IPL team SRH denoted Rs 10 Crore. These are the big names which contributed. We can't mention names of above Rs 200 crore it may lead to negative impact. Even 1 Crore is not a less amount. We can do 1 possible things that all the names of contributors move to PM CARES Fund, only notable should remain in this article. Mr.Mani Raj Paul - talk 10:45, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Every company/group has donated some or the other amount and we are not a newspaper to cover each and every contribution. You say 1 crore is not a small amount. Let me tell you that it is a miniscule amount compared to the 6500 crore that the PM-CARES Fund collected within the first week. Hope you get the point. M4DU7 (talk) 11:09, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Mr.Mani Raj Paul, M4DU7 is correct, no need to mention every individual's contribution in this section. It's obvious that celebrities or companies can only pay in crores. There are many and we cannot include all. One need to maintain WP:SUMMARY. And the section looks good with the mention of contributors who have donated above 500 cr. I've mentioned your version of the section here at PM CARES Fund, with 25 cr. as min for inclusion no meed to mention more, if with in 25 cr. limit if anyone left, you can include that. Here in this article the existing section seems good to me. Dey subrata (talk) 14:03, 13 April 2020 (UTC)

Add lines in Misinformation and Discrimination section

Following lines should be added in Discrimination section:

Muslim gatherings organised by the Tablighi Jamaat has resulted in large increased of cases in India, which has triggered Islamophobic reactions and increased communal tension.[1][2][3] Islamophobic hashtags began circulating shortly after the news broke in late March.[4] Videos falsely claiming to show members of the missionary group spitting on police and others quickly went viral on social media.[5][6] A tribal boy in Jharkhand was killed over a clash over such rumours.[7] In North West Delhi, a mob attacked a Muslim man and told him to renounce Islam as they believed that he was part of a so-called Islamic conspiracy to spread coronavirus.[8]

Some patients, in different quarantine facilities of Uttar Pradesh, refused to eat food because the cooks in these facilities were Dalits.[9][10]

Change the color of pandemic cases from 500–999 confirmed cases 100–499 confirmed cases because these two colors schemes are too similar to understand difference which state have 100 confirmed cases and which one have 500 or 999 confirmed cases.

I suggest to change the color of pandemic cases from 500–999 confirmed cases 100–499 confirmed cases because these two colors schemes are too similar to understand difference which state have 100 confirmed cases and which one have 500.it will be easier to understand this map for readers.
