[edit]I somehow missed the page "Charles Goldie" when creating this page - probably because the artist is usually known as C.F. Goldie. I support the merging of the pages but suggest that C.F. Goldie is the preferable title.MikeRM 20:41, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- agreed -merge but keep C.F. Goldie as title Goldfinger820 03:04, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, may as well make Charles Goldie a redirect too. Lisiate 22:12, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Bias on page
[edit]This page seems rather biased and lacking citations for a number of critical assertions. For example, as Goldie's painting was a homage to the Raft of the Medusa, why would anyone criticise it for being historically inaccurate when it comes to the Maaori? It seems obvious that it is referential to the earlier painting rather than meant to be an actual historical representation of the Maaori arrival in NZ. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.236.232.206 (talk) 09:00, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

C. F. Goldie → Charles Goldie – Is C. F. Goldie really the most commonly used name for Charles Goldie? It seems very antiquated to me, even if it is the name he presumably signed his painting with. I would be interested to know what others think. (See also talk topic above about the original name for the article.) --Relisted. — Amakuru (talk) 09:43, 6 February 2015 (UTC) Ballofstring (talk) 00:53, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
- Comment. Google Books shows 978 [1] vs. 1700 [2] but unfortunately a lot of the results for Charles Goldie don't appear to be for this person. Zarcadia (talk) 19:11, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Comment. It certainly wasn't antiquated to use one's initials only at the time he was alive. Except to one's friends and family, it was probably more common than using one's name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:21, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. I'd really like to see a rationale for the move in line with WP:NCP. I note there are other artist biographies on Wikipedia that use initials, e.g. C. K. Stead and J. K. Rowling, the latter having been the subject of an unsupported move request. Schwede66 18:52, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
