Verbs take predicates?

[edit]

In the first example under the subheading Intransitives, it states "Both of the verbs in 1a and 1b are classified as intransitives, they take only one predicate." In my understanding, 'verb' and 'predicate' have the same function. Thus, the intransitive verb would take an argument, not a 'predicate'. Can someone please confirm?
