Notability and improvements
[edit]There might be a question of his notability, however Bull Benini survived the Bataan Death March, Japanese Hell ships, went on to "found" Combat Control, which is today folded into Special Tactics Squadrons, of which the 24th STS has produced a Medal of Honor (TSgt John A. Chapman), and played and are playing vital roles in the Global War on Terrorism, especially in Afghanistan.````
@AustralianRupert: If I might prevail upon your goodwill. Could you please recheck the references and tell me if they suffice. There are now 16 references some ofwhich are US Military Government (Army, Navy, AF) as well as newspapers and books. Thanks.Oldperson (talk) 21:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- G'day, certainly getting there - I think it probably has the legs for article space given what you have found and added. A couple of suggestions for improvement, though: firstly, I think it would be a good idea to split the large paragraph in the military career section (probably could be two or three paragraphs); secondly, the large group of citations at the end of the paragraph should be worked throughout the paragraph wherever they are relevant; thirdly, is there a photo perhaps of the subject; finally, if you think there might be more in the newspapers.com source, someone at the Resource Exchange might already have access and might be able to check for you (so you don't have to pay) -- you can post requests here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. - Almost there, I think -- are there any details available about whether he married and had children? Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:36, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Also, in the infobox it mentions "Kashmir 1960: Operation Road Grader" -- was this 1960 or 1965 (i.e. part of the India-Pakistan War of 1965)? If possible, can you work specific mention of this operation into the body of the article? The infobox should really only be a summary of the body of the article. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:46, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Hey AR happy to see you, the book "CCT-The eye of the storm-the GWOT years vol ii alcide benini" told me he was in 1960 in Kashmir for Operation Road Grader. This subject probably needs a little bit more explanation and expansion in his article. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 11:44, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- G'day, CPA, thanks -- from what I can see of the source (I only seem to get a snippet view here) it was an operation to deliver equipment/supplies. AustralianRupert (talk) 11:32, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- @AustralianRupert and CPA-5:I searched obits and findagrave.com and could not find the name of his wife. The obit mentioned that he was survived by two children. I am gobsmacked as to why the obit doesn't mention his wife, except possibly he was divorced and under messy terms (infidely?) obits are written by family, most likely children, and they didn't mention their mother has to be for a reason. He died at age 93 and was survived by a brother and sister..long lived family. I recall seeing a list of his decorations but didn't ref that site. Email from Sgtmacsbar, he referred me to another chap who is more in touch with the CCSHF. Hopefuly WM commons lets the image stay put until I get permissionsOldperson (talk) 14:58, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, no worries. I'd suggest possibly adding mention of the two children to the article and referencing the obit. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 11:32, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- BTW guys Bull is his nickname so we shouldn't use it as part of the article's title this source told me that. Cheers. CPA-5 (talk) 12:58, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

@CPA-5: I've used his nickname in the title because he is famously known as Bull Benini, many who know of him don't even know his first name.. Please check the templates I inserted at the top of this talk page. I fear I was presumptious. If so feel free to delete or modify.Oldperson (talk) 20:23, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- G'day, no worries - I get that, and I don't doubt you (I work in an organisation where pretty much everyone is known only by a nickname). But, is there a source for him being known only as Bull? I suspect that any page reviewer will think twice about moving the draft to the mainspace while there is uncited content, so it would probably be best to remove this if it is your own original research or synthesis. If it can be reliably sourced, then the article could potentially, when moved to the mainspace, use the title Bull Benini. There is precedence for this approach (see Bull Allen for a couple of examples). Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 08:49, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- @AustralianRupert:I don't think that I can find a reference, online, which refers to him as "Bull Benini" after all these sources are formal. As I said he was known to his comrades as Bull. By the same token, there are so many people known by their nicknames or middle names. For instance I was known within my community by my middle name, people who searched for me can't find me, yet my obit will mention my full name. Here is another - Marshall "ollie" T.Oliphant, actually he was mostly known by his middle name or rather the nick of his middlename (Tom). I have no problem changing the name of the article to Alcide S. Benini and mentioning in the lead paragraph that he was known as Bull to his comrades and friends, if that helps moving it to mainspace .Oldperson

- G'day, it doesn't have to be an online reference. If there is a hard copy/paper source, that is fine, also. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 02:52, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
CPA-5 If I move the article to draft:Alide S.Benini, sans the nick, I will do that later. Currently I have emails out to a number of people, including findagrave.com, referencing the article as currently titled, If I change it by moving then those links won't work, or will they. Not sure how the redirect thing works from outside of WPOldperson (talk) 16:23, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- @AustralianRupert and CPA-5: While researching another article I came up GusGrissom his proper name is Virgil Ivan Grisson, nickname Gus. The article name is in his popular name. The name by which he is famously known. I feel that this article should be moved to Bull Benini for the same reason as Gus Grissom. I am sure that there are more such bio's on WP, mainspaced with nickname rather than proper name.Opinions please.Oldperson (talk) 20:26, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
- G'day, I wouldn't advise moving the article until the point about the nickname can be referenced in the article. Otherwise, I agree that the move should be ok. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:15, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
- Taking to heart and in consideration the excellent advice (and assistance) provided. I decided to move the article to Bull Benini. Decision made after reviewing other articles in which the article name reflects the nickname or that name upon which they are famously known. A prime example is Gus Grissom. Reason is in part based on the fact that the person was known as BullBenini to the public, family and community, but also because anyone who would care tosearch Bull Benini would have no luck. Whereas with the redirect the name shows up as Alcide S. Benini,Alcide Benini or Bull Benini and thus the article shows for encyclopaedic purposes, which is the purpose of WP.Oldperson (talk) 22:34, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
